Family, friends, employees, and the manufacturing community grieve the loss of a wonderful man and a true pioneer in the bonded magnet industry. On the morning of January 5, 2022, William Roger McPherson passed away quietly from natural causes. Roger was born on September 1, 1946 in Plainwell, Michigan, the third child to Bernard C. Sr. and Hazel McPherson. He lived his entire life in Otsego, Michigan.
His contributions to his family, community and the magnetics industry will be greatly missed. He was recognized worldwide as the creator of a unique type of injection bonded magnet technology. I will miss Roger but do not forget his son Mark who with the passion and integrety of his dad will continue on!!! Also Linda was a great care giver for a long time!! WOW what a team!!!

So very sorry to hear of Roger’s passing. I worked for McPherson’s Plastics for six and a half years right out of high school. The family always treated me with respect and I remember Roger working on the startup of Tengam in the back of the plant. Sending hugs and prayers for his family in their time of sorrow. I know he will be missed and he is finally pain free.

I am so sorry for your loss. He was one smart guy!!!! A bit scarey….here’s a funny story. I worked at McPherson Plastics for many summers. Helped me pay for college at CMU. I ran one of his first magnet machines on first shift. I forgot to put in pin into the mold. Just once. It obviously froze, had to shut it down and be re-built. He walked towards me. I thought I was going to fired that second. He didn’t say much but I could tell he was furious. I had alot of respect for him. Although very scared of him. After that I never forgot pins. He will be missed. I love all of the McPhersons. I am very sorry.

I had the pleasure of working with Roger for several years during my high school and college years. He frequented the hardware store (Bob’s True Value) where I worked in high school and at some point agreed to hire me to help take care of his property. I loved that place. He was always very kind to me and really encouraged me in my own scientific pursuits.
I have so many great memories of Roger… spending break time talking about and looking through his telescope, learning to use his flame thrower to take care of weeds around the pond, borrowing his gazebo for a date with my high school sweetheart. HIs idea. LOL.
My condolences to Linda, Mark and the rest of the McPherson family. Roger was a really wonderful person and I’m sad that he’s gone.
