William M. Burr Jr. of Plainwell, MI passed away Friday, October 27, 2017 at Wings Home in Allegan. He was born January 18, 1938 in Plainwell the son of Thelma Nunley and William Burr Sr. William was a veteran of the United States Army and served his country overseas from 1957-1959. He attended Western Michigan University and received a degree in Chemistry and Mathematics. As an active member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church, the Otsego United Methodist Church, William volunteered with Child Protective Services of Allegan County and was an advocate for environmental responsibility. He retired from Upjohn and Pharmoptima after 51 years. William devoted his life to his church, his wife, his children and grandchildren and was dedicated to serving others. On July 2, 1960 he married Barbara Hellenthal who survives. Also surviving are his children, Jeffery (Nancy) Burr of Otsego, Brian (Mary) Burr of Plainwell and Jennifer Burr of Plainwell; 4 grandchildren, David, Gregory, Mason and Lauren Burr and sister, Sandra Burr.
According to his wishes cremation has taken place.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at the Otsego United Methodist Church at 5:30pm with Pastor Joe Shaler officiating.
Burial of ashes with Military Honors will take place at a later time.
Contributions in memory of William may be made to the Wings Home or to Wings of Hope Hospice.
