Wendell O. Burkett of Delton, Michigan, passed away Sunday, November 21, 2010, at his home. Wendell was born March 15, 1941 in Plainwell to Milton and Glenna (Worden) Burkett and was a lifelong resident of the area. He had been employed first with Allied Paper Co. in Kalamazoo, then worked
for Cytec Industries for 20 years. He also owned and operated Slide-A-Way Waterslide on D Avenue for 12 years. In his leisure time he enjoyed fishing, boating, watching sports, especially the Pistons and Lions, playing cards, fixing things, gospel music and above all else, loved spending time with his family. On November 20, 1964 in Kalamazoo he married Dee Ann Dolph, who survives. Also surviving are his children, Tony Burkett of Kalamazoo, Randy (fiancée Donna Barnhart) Burkett of Portage, Denny (Jennifer) Burkett of Richland and Scotty (Marcy) Burkett of Kalamazoo; five grandchildren, Ashley, Benjamin and Leah, Brandon and Ryan; his mother,
Glenna Burkett
of Otsego; two sisters, Rita Arnsman of Otsego and Jean Phelps of Plainwell; several nieces and nephews; and his dog, Buddy. He was preceded in death by his father. His family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. today at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at the Church of God, Otsego, with Pastor Stephen Burrow officiating. Burial at Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego, will follow. Contributions in memory of Wendell may be made to the Otsego Church of God Warner Youth Camp.
