Sylvia L. Mckeown

Sylvia passed away Friday, September 24, 2021 at Wings Home in Allegan.

She was born August 17, 1924 in Plainwell, the daughter of Claude and Hazel (Roomsberg) Ives. Sylvia enjoyed living a simple life. She loved spending time with her family and friends, especially, Kitty Town, Janet Smith and Sherry Johnson. She was a longtime resident at Baraga Manor in Otsego. Sylvia’s family would like to thank the staff and residents for their kindness and love over the last 30 years. On May 22, 1943 she married Donald McKeown who passed away in 1987.

Surviving are her daughter, Judith (John) Stopa, 5 grandchildren, Carrie, Troy, Jeff, Merritt III and Michael; 8 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Sandra; son, Robert and siblings, Ella, Bill, Chuck and Bob.

According to her wishes cremation has taken place.

A private family burial of ashes will take place at Lindsley Cemetery in Cheshire Township.

I’m so sorry to hear about your loss and heavens gain. I first met Sylvia when she lived out in Chicora and years later I moved to Baraga and we became close friends. I will miss her wit and sharp mind.

So sorry for your loss. She was such a sweet person. She was one of my moms close friends at Barago.. she was so thoughtful of others.she will be missed by many.
