Sherrie Carr-Lapham passed away Thursday, December 7, 2023 in Grand Rapids, MI, after a courageous battle with leukemia (CMML).
She was born March 21, 1963 in Plainwell, MI, the daughter of Roger and Sharon (Markle) Carr. Sherrie lived in Lawton, MI until the age of 16, when she moved to Kalamazoo, MI. She graduated from Plainwell High School in 1981.
Sherrie became a cosmetologist in 1981 and worked as a cosmetologist for over 40 years. Sherrie also worked as a cosmetology instructor at Chic University of Cosmetology and, later, Empire Beauty School. Sherrie owned her own salon for many years and, most recently, worked at B&B Hairstyling in Kalamazoo.
Sherrie had a knack for ingenuity and had ideas for inventions, but never submitted them for patent. During her younger years, Sherrie helped out in her parent’s grape vineyard. She learned to drive at a young age, and operated tractors, motorcycles and snowmobiles.
Sherrie married Tim Lapham in 1983, and was blessed with 2 children, whom she very much adored. Sherrie became a grandma in 2017, and again in 2020. She was known as “Mangy” to her grandchildren, as they couldn’t pronounce “grandma”. She absolutely doted on her grandchildren, spending all her extra time with them. COVID’s arrival in 2020, provided Sherrie and her family with extra time to spend together, and her children and grandchildren will cherish it forever.
Sherrie enjoyed the holidays, especially Christmas. She always enjoyed decorating her Christmas tree with a ton of tinsel! Sherrie valued her appearance, and never left the house without looking fabulous! Sherrie was kind beyond measure, never having a bad word to say about others. Sherrie loved her family, many loyal friends and her students. She had a wonderful laugh that will be sorely missed.
Everyone loved her, including the many doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, etc that she encountered at Butterworth Hospital. The family is eternally grateful to the amazing staff at Butterworth, especially Dr. Munoz (Sherilyn), who was an advocate for Sherrie, leaving no stone unturned in trying to provide Sherrie with the most excellent care. Sherrie fought so hard to beat leukemia. The staff commented frequently on how strong Sherrie was, and how hard she was fighting the disease. The family sends heartfelt thanks nurses Gwen, Cassidy and Aubrey, as well as Doug from respiratory, along with the many staff at Butterworth Hospital.
Sherrie endured many obstacles and hardships in her life, but wasn’t able to overcome the illness that stole her from us. She truly was a wonderful person, both inside and out, and will be greatly missed by many people.
Surviving, are her mother, Sharon Carr; children: Dustin Lapham and Krista (fiance Travis Wallace) Lapham; grandchildren: Thatcher and Saylah Wallace; siblings: Catherine (Christopher) Marschke, Chip Gott, Brian (Marie) Gott and Joseph (Tricia) Carr; several nieces and nephews, including: Corbin, Preston and Reba Carr, and Gordon and Lydia Marschke and her father-in-law, Stu Lapham.
She was preceded in death by her father, Roger Carr in 1990.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place.
Friends may visit with Sherrie’s family from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at Winkel Funeral Home in Otsego, MI.
Contributions, in memory of Sherrie, may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Messages of condolence may be posted at www.WinkelFuneralHome.com.
A private family service will be held at a later date in Kalamazoo, MI, where she will be laid to rest alongside her father in the Cooper Cemetery.

Thoughts and prayers to all those who loved Sherri. Such sad news to read of her passing. Sherri was a caring and kind person who always spoke proudly of her children and her mother. Sherri cut my hair for many years and I followed her to the shop in Otsego.
I have many wonderful memories of Sherri and was always happy to sit in her chair and share in great conversation.
RIP Sherri

My heart is truly broken. I mean,.. who wouldn’t LOVE Sherrie? She was a beautiful person both inside and out. I was honored to be her friend for nearly 40 years. There are so many memories of her that I will cherish for the rest of my life. The one BIG thing I’ll miss, besides her in person, is the great laugh she had! It would stand out in any crowd! I love you girl,.. I’ll see you again. #RestEasy

My condolences to Sherri’s precious family. She loved you so much!
I first had the privilege of meeting Sherri in 1993 at Chic University of Cosmetology where she was one of my educators. Some years later in the early 2000’s I got to work side by side with her at Chic as her colleague. We ran a tight ship on that clinic floor and became close friends and confidants. We also worked at Story Point Assisted living facility in their salon at the same time at one point and recently worked together at Empire Beauty school for the past 3 years. Sherri was an excellent educator and a great friend to me! My heart hurts that she is gone! She will be missed by many!
