Sandy passed away Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo.
She was born November 11, 1951 in Allegan, the daughter of Merl and Addie (Parsons) Mason. Sandy was a 1970 Otsego High School graduate and lifelong resident of the area. In her spare time she enjoyed quilting, crocheting, decorating her home for the holidays, playing with her dogs and traveling out west. She was a member and past president of the Gun River Conservation Club and was active with the Allegan County East Relay for Life. What Sandy loved most was spending time with her family and hosting many family gatherings over the years. On October 24, 1970 at the Otsego Church of God, she married Harold “J.R.” Tackett Jr., who survives.
Also surviving are their children, Stephanie Tackett of Otsego and Chad (Andrea Ehlert) Tackett of Portage; her siblings, Roger Mason, Kitty Rop, Ken (Sherry) Mason, and Bob (Deb) Mason along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother-in-law, Don Rop and nephew, Jonathan Mason.
According to her wishes cremation has taken place.
Contributions in memory of Sandy may be made to the charity of your choice.

I am saddened to read this about Sandy. Although I haven’t seen her in a long time, we were friends from high school class of 1969. She was always a friend in school and when I would run in to her in later years, there was always a friendship shown. Sandy was a fun and loving person and I know her family will miss her. To her family, please accept my sincere sympathy.

I am so deeply sorry to have heard of Sandy’s passing. Please know that my prayers are with your family especially during this most difficult time. Though we only met just briefly at the January Gun River Conservation Club Board of Directors meeting I was impressed by the number of years & the level of appreciation the other Board members had for Sandy. I have heard the words of “strong in concern & conviction of the continuance of the importance of the Gun River Conservation Club” & all the Club means to so many people….be it a family gathering, a wedding, a class reunion or a baby shower. She was a bold, strong person who meant so much to many people. May your family be Blessed by all the ways she touched your lives. May God be with you & comfort you all during this very sad time & in the months to come.

JR and family. I am so sorry to learn of Sandy’s passing. She was a wonderful, kind and gracious lady. She was so loyal to her friends and family over the years. Sandy and I were classmates. She put so much into our 40th class reunion and made it so very special with all the little extras. She stayed a good friend to my mom and her lodge members over the years and honored them in their passings. I will always remember her smile and twinkle when she was getting into trouble with her good friend Dian. May she RIP.

To Stephanie, Chad, and their Dad. Please know that our thoughts and sympathy are with your family at this very, very sad time in your lives. Our boys, Mike and Mark, used to bowl on Saturday mornings with Stephanie and Chad when all of them were still in school and we parents would sit and drink coffee and visit at the Plainwell Bowling Alley. . It was fun to sit and visit with Sandy and family. She was a very caring person. The last time I saw her was after Chad had left the Otsego Fire Department and became Fire Chief in the Kalamazoo area. Chad and Sandy were shopping at the Plainwell Harding’s store and we had not seen each other in a very long time but it was fun to visit with them for a short time and to congratulate Chad on his new position after we had read about it in the paper. The last time we saw Stephanie was at the Conservation Club when she came over and sat down with us at the gathering for Marilyn Welcher Fenner’s retirement. It was so nice to see her and to catch up. 🙂 If I remember right, she said her folks had just left a little while before that so we had just missed seeing them. Please know that all of us are keeping all of you in our thoughts and sending a lot of sympathy and hugs your way. Take care now and may your special memories help to guide you through your grief in the coming days, months, and years.
