Sally L. Smecka

Sally L. Smecka of Plainwell, Michigan, passed away Sunday, December 20, 2009 at her home. Sally was born February 6, 1944 in Plainwell, the daughter of Emery and Lottie Pauline Cole-Bennett. Sally’s father died in WWII. She grew up on a farm in Alamo and was active in 4H. Sally graduated from Otsego High School in 1962, then was a “baby nurse”, working as a nurse’s aid in the obstetrics department at Pipp Community Hospital, retiring in 2000 after 28 years. She enjoyed bowling as part of the Wednesday Night Ladies League and she was lovingly called a “cat lady” because of her love for her cats. She is survived by her children, Stephen Vincent (Pam) Smecka and Teresa Lee (Mike) Fleeman both of Plainwell; 2 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent Smecka in 1993, her parents and a great-grandson, Derrick. Friends may meet with the family at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, MI, Wednesday from 11:00 until the service time of 1:00, Pastor Kevin Smith officiating. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery, Plainwell, followed by a luncheon at Friendship Wesleyan Church, 1285 – 102
