Ruth passed away Sunday, February 14, 2021 at her home in Plainwell.
She was born July 27, 1942 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Andrew and Hattie (Merkel) Owen. Ruth enjoyed babysitting the neighborhood kids, doing crafts, cooking, baking, gardening and caring for her many pets. On August 4, 1987 in Kalamazoo she married David Vanfleet who survives.
Also surviving are her children, Kelley (Richard) Florian of Orangeville, Jim Long of Hastings and Candy Pradon of Hastings; step-children, Chris (Todd) Banks, Kelly (Craig) Jackson, David (Colleen) Vanfleet and Stacey Vanfleet; 8 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and siblings, Jackie Owen and Kenny Owen.
She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Ruford “Dean” Long; grandson, Dustin and her 7 siblings.
According to her wishes cremation has taken place.
Burial of ashes will take place at Mountain Home Cemetery at a later time.
Contributions in memory of Ruth may be made to the
Alzheimer’s Association.
