Rowena Virginia Loebel went home to be with her Lord on April 9th in
Fort Myers
,
Florida
. Rowena spent her winters with her beloved husband Max A. Loebel in
Fort Myers
since the late 1950’s and they dearly loved that area. Rowena has been a member of First Baptist Church of Otsego for more than 80 years. For several of those early years she was involved with the Cradle Roll ministry, which was the start of several families’ involvement with the church. Families with young children were identified by what was hung out-to-dry on their clotheslines. Once a home with young children was identified, the children were invited to church. The church had no bus in those days, so Rowena filled the back of a cheese truck with excited children for the ride to and from Sunday School. Generations of these children’s children continue to attend to this day.
Rowena was born
December 15, 1914
, in

, the daughter of George and Roxanna (Harter) Anderson. In the 1920’s Rowena’s father George Anderson was the owner and cook at the popular White Kitchen restaurant in Otsego. In 1926 Rowena’s soon-to-be husband Max started the Michigan Cottage Cheese Company. Together, after their marriage, they worked hard to make the company a success, employing many workers in the Otsego area. In later years, Rowena enjoyed many great times at class outings and Sunday Bible study with her friends in the True Blue Sunday school class at her church. In her leisure time, she enjoyed traveling, mushroom hunting, gardening, Bible study and spending time with her grandchildren. On
August 27, 1929
, she married Max Loebel who preceded her in death in 1982.
Surviving are her daughters, Gertrude (Paul) Wellington and Gwendolyn (Howard) Holden-Norton; 13 grandchildren, Heidi (Dan) Valeen, Terry (Leon) Straub, Graham (Amy) Wellington, Michael (Annette) Wellington, Roxanna Wellington, Allan (Debbie) Holden, Carolyn (Duane) VerHage, Kristine Holden, Wayne (Ruth) Holden, Sherolyn (Bob) Bajo, Kathy Holden, Mark (Lura) Holden and Angela (Gary) Augustine; 22 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
