Ronald Lytle Sr..
Lytle, Ronald R. Lytle, Sr. of Otsego passed away suddenly on November 16, while pursuing his long-time passion: deer hunting.
Ron was born July 7, 1941 the first of four sons, to the late Ralph M. and Gertrude “Pat” (Nilles) Lytle in Toledo, Ohio. Early in his career, Ron worked for the City of Kalamazoo as a foreman in the Parks-Forestry Division. After fifteen years there, he left this to pursue a career as a licensed contractor, building and remodeling many homes. For the better part of the last twenty-five years, Ron worked for the City of Otsego Water Department. He also operated his own business trimming and removing trees.
Ron was a devoted member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church, and was deeply involved in many church ministries. He volunteered his time playing guitar and singing every Saturday at the Alamo Nursing Home. Over the course of twenty years, he rarely missed a performance. He was tireless in his efforts to help others. Ron’s smile and gentle kindness affected everyone with whom he came in contact.
He was preceded in death by his brother Mike Lytle.
Ron is survived by his daughter Paula Kay Lytle (Sandy Reid), a son Ron Lytle (Andy Hartzell), brother Larry Lytle (Diane), brother David Lytle (Maggie), many loving nieces and nephews, a very large church family, and countless friends.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place.
There will be a memorial celebration service on December 12, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to: Kalamazoo Nature Center (naturecenter.org), East Bay Children’s Theatre (ebctOnline.org) or the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission (kazoogospel.org).

I was sorry to hear that Ron passed away. I volunteer on Saturday’s at the church service at Alamo Nursing Home, and that’s how I have gotten to know Ron. I used to work for the City of Otsego, and knew Ron from my time there. What a great guy he was—always kind and smiling! I am sorry for your loss and thankful that he died doing what he loved.

Although there is a big hole here on earth, Heaven rejoiced when Ron came before the Lord – a good and faithful servant. Ron was such a giving and kind-hearted man. He was willing to help anyone in any way that he could. He touched the lives of every generation and every walk of life. He was really an incredible man. Our thoughts go out to his family and friends, as well as to the church family.

Family, sincere Thoughts and Prayers for your lose. Ron was a Portage High School Classmate of the Class of 1959. He was with us each at our monthly 59er Breakfast’s as our Chaplain. He was always at doing the work of his Lord. Such a friend to have.

to the Lytle family I am so sorry for the loss of your father and brother. Ron and I dated in our younger years and I know what an amazing man he was. He would play the guitar for hours either at my house or his. He was a gentle and kind person and I treasure the time we spent together.

Bro. Ron was always a blessing and an encouragement to me. He was one of those people who played a grandparent roll in my life seeing as how I had no grandfather close to me. Even after I went to college, and every trip home since we have both made it a point to connect and see how things are going on both ends. I was so sad to hear of his passing and wished I could have made it back for the memorial. He was an ever faithful man who loved God and was a good role model. Many prayers for the family.

I first new Ron when he was working with the forestry crew for the city of Kalamazoo. I was a college student working summers for two years and Ron was my “go to” guy for just about everything. I knew nothing and he knew just about everything. Nonetheless he was invariably patient, kind, and helped me in countless ways. That was in the summers of 1967 and 1968, yet the content of his character remains with me to this day. He was a teacher and a role model, but also a friend. I lost track of Ron after graduation but I never lost track of his lessons. It is indeed true that we live on in the hearts of others, sometimes in places nobody would know. I am likely one of those. Thank you, Ron.
