Rodney Lynn Channells was born on May 15, 1956 to George P. Channells II and Pauline E. (Troff) Channells. The third of five children, Rod grew up in Martin, MI where he fell in love with the country life and small town living.
Rod graduated from Martin High School and started work as a heavy truck mechanic. There never seemed to be a vehicle that Rod didn’t know how to fix, and his skills in mechanics helped a great number of family and friends. His skills with tools were also put to work when helping his parents build the log home of their dreams. He would later marry his wife, Cathie Brown, in that home.
An avid outdoorsman, Rod loved to hunt and fish, finding himself in the woods or on the water every chance he got. Rod also loved animals entirely; he was almost never without a dog at his side, or in his car or truck.
Rod passed away at home on April 30, 2018.
Rod is survived by his brothers, George (Catherine) Channells III and Joseph Channells, sister Brook (Channells) Kievit, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by both parents, George and Pauline Channells, brother Todd Channells, brother-in-law Thomas Kievit, and wife Cathie (Brown) Channells.
Per Rod’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
A private burial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the
American Cancer Society.
