Robert Powers

A service celebrating the life of Robert Franklin Powers will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at the Otsego United Methodist Church. Pastor Joe Shaler officiating.

Burial will follow at Mountain Home Cemetery.

Bob was born to Donald and Eva (Corrie) Powers on May 4, 1938 in South Haven, Michigan. In 1950 the Powers family relocated to a farm just north of Otsego and Bob graduated from Otsego High School as part of the class of 1956. On November 20, 1959 he married the love of his life, Brenda Grauman and together they raised four children.

Although he was a man of few words and a bit of a solitudinarian, Bob was a great presence in the lives of those he loved. He will be missed immensely by the family who felt his constant calming presence; witnessed his example of a powerful, loving marriage; were the recipients of his never-ending patience, and were on the receiving end of his dry sense of humor and good-natured practical jokes.

He is survived by his children, Jeff (Mary) Powers of Grand Rapids, Jerrie (Tom) Matthews, Sherrie (Larry) Town and Tim (Susan) Powers all of Otsego; 12 grandchildren, Ashley, (Richard) Humphries, Brian Powers, Andrea (Derek) Schwab, Matt Matthews, Kevin (Melissa) Matthews, Jenna (Matthew) Leyndyke, Bobby Matthews (Alexandra Bennett), Aric (Lindsey) Town, Adam Town, Veronica Powers, Jessica Powers and Sabrina Powers; and 19 great grandchildren, and sisters Linda (Tom) Nash and Mary Powers.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Brenda, brothers James, Ron and Don.

Bob and Brenda’s adopted pets brought a great amount of pleasure and comfort to their lives. For those wishing to make a contributions in memory of Bob please consider the Pet Resource Network of Otsego or to Christian Neighbors.

To the Power’s family.

So sorry for the loss of your dad. He had to be a very special man to support your mom in some of risky things she did. Going Bronson Park to feed the homeless among other things.

He and your mom will now be reunited on Heaven.

Cherish your beautiful memories.

Dearest Powers Family,

I’m sorry to hear of Bob’s passing. I just want to thank you again for letting me serve him in his home. He was a sweet quiet man. He didn’t say much but was always agreeable and a gentleman. I got him talking once about his wife and he said she was his love. I’ll be praying for you guys and may God comfort you at this time. Ruby (home helpers)

I have the BEST memories of “Nice Bob” as I called him. My first memory of him, however, was a little terrifying as Sherrie,Jerrie and I woke him up mid day after he’d worked a night shift.

He didn’t talk a lot for sure but when he did say something you better hope you were listening because it was bound to be funny!

His absolute pride and love for his family was beyond evident.

Rest easy Nice Bob.
