Robert Buckmaster Sr.
Robert “Bucky” Buckmaster Sr. of Otsego passed away Saturday, January 11, 2014 in Kalamazoo. Mr. Buckmaster was born August 15, 1924 in Fowlerville, MI the son of Howard and Emma (Gehringer) Buckmaster. Robert served his country in the Army on D-Day on Omaha Beach, France and central Europe during WW II. He worked as a plant superintendent at KVP Sutherland/ Brown /James River for over 40 years; was an avid golfer playing on 3 leagues; had played semi pro baseball and for many years been on the KVP and Pure Oil teams and had been a batboy for the Tigers.
Surviving are his children, Bob Jr. (Janet) Buckmaster of Plainwell, Michael (Maureen) Buckmaster of CA and Ginny (Bill) Rutlidge of Three Rivers; several grandchildren and great grandchildren and a brother, Jerry (Roberta) Buckmaster. He was preceded in death by his wife Irene; siblings Harold, Herman, Betty, Lucille and Elaine. Friends may visit with Bucky’s family from 5-7 P.M. Wednesday at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, where services will be held Thursday at 11 A.M., VFW Post #3030 officiating. Burial will follow with Military Honors by VFW Post #3030 at Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego.
In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Robert may be made to Kairos Dwelling.

Bob, Mike, Ginny,
So sorry to read about the loss of your father. I was lucky to re-connect with Bob in the last 2 years through working on the Otsego Veterans Memorial and at the VFW fish fries. I really enjoyed talking with him, looking at his pictures of WWII and just reminiscing with him about the old days on our block.
Once again I am sorry for your and all of our loss. I am in Florida for a couple of months and therefore am unable to attend his service.

Bob was president of our golf league on Wed. Morning. As secretary of this league I would like to express our deepest sympothy from all of us. He was truly one we all looked up to and admired his ability to play golf. He was one that I relied on for advice on league matters He found the best in everybody.

sorry for all of our loss. I have learned so much from this man over the years, and seen pictures a few times, along with his so many stories.. I will miss our fish dinners and story time. I’m so appreciative for the time in these last days that i have spent with him talking about all of you Mike,Ginny and Bob also your families. He was very proud of all of you.

To the family of my friend ” Bucky”. Sorry to hear of your loss. I only knew him for a short 2 years. I met him and Sandie at the Otsego VFW Friday night dinners. I always enjoyed visiting with them and listening to his war stories and looking at the pictures he carried with him. We were both WW2 vets. He was a great guy and will be missed by all who knew him.

To ” Bucky Jr. ” & family. He was one of a kind, hard working, honest, always had a kind word for anybody. He was one of ” the Greatest Generation” ! I never got tired of being around & talking to him. He will sorely be missed !

Bucky will be greatly missed around Crestview Golf Club.
He was an insperation to all of us.
He was also a kind and generous individual. He helped transport vets to the VA on a regular basis.
He shared his life experiences bringing pictures of past sporting events and stories.

Dear Ginny, Bill and the granddaughter that is the mail-carrier;
Bob was a wonderful individual…… his love of his family and his life came shinning through every time we had a visit. If I saw him in my schedule for the day it was going to be great day…….. I enjoyed having him as a special part of my career……He always brought a smile to my face….. I hope I made his day too He will be so missed by all who were blessed to have known him so sorry for your loss………..

My heart goes out to Bob’s family .
I always loved waiting on Bob(Irene) when they came into the restaurant. And later also enjoyed seeing him across the street as our neighbor .. He was so full of energy ,and was always taking care of his yard..A very unique person that will be dearly missed .especially liked it when we was talking about Germany .
so sorry for your loss of a wonderful person .
