Richard M. Downing

Dick passed away, Friday, December 1, 2023, at his home in Otsego.

He was born October 19, 1930 in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of William and Josephine (Haulter) Downing. Dick was a police officer and served as the Director of Security for General Motors for 18 years. He was also a narcotics officer and member of the Fraternal Order of Police.

In his free time Dick enjoyed fishing and golfing. He attended the First Congregational Church of Otsego for many years and was currently attending Trowbridge Community Church. On May 27, 1983 he married Sharalyn Mahieu who survives.

Also surviving are his daughter Linda (Bob) Stuber; step-children, Kim (Craig) Reed and Tim (Jane) VanderPloeg as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

According to his wishes cremation has taken place.

Burial of ashes will take place at Ft. Custer National Cemetery at a later time.

Contributions in memory of Dick may be made to the Trowbridge Community Church.

Uncle Dick was an amazing man. So grateful that he came to visit me and Kenny while Kenny was still alive. We made amends to each other for past lapses in our relationship and renewed our friendship. He was a good uncle! The last of the Downings to keep the name going. Just my brother nd he had two girls! Go’s bless. Uncle Dick!!!!
