Richard King
Richard Lee King, 71, of Otsego, Michigan, passed away on Saturday, February 16th, 2013 at Bronson Methodist Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was born on March 9
th
, 1941 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the son on Lyle and Vera (Grable) King.
He is survived by his wife Roberta (Quiring) King and children, Katherine (Jeff) Tippett and Amy (David) Nguyen along with 4 grandchildren, 2 sisters, Ruth Baures and Joyce Henderson, and a brother, Robert (Judy) King and several nieces and nephews.
Rich was self-employed for 36 years as a psychologist. He loved Michigan football, hiking in the mountains of Montana and Wyoming and motorcycle trips. He played guitar and loved bluegrass music. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and a beloved friend to many.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 24
th
, 2013, at
Otsego United Methodist Church in Otsego, Michigan
at 2:00 P.M.

Roberta, Amy and Kathy, I am so sorry for the loss of Rich in our lives. I was so blessed to meet Amy and in turn being introduced to Rich, you and Kathy. All these years, I always looked forward to Rich’s sessions and talking about dogs, sports, movies, politics, ect. I will miss him dearly. I will always cherish his stories about his travels. I will think of him taking one last hike out west in the sunshine. All my best to you and your families.

Dear Sweet Roberta and family,
We are so sorry to hear about Rich, he truely was our hero. He was always smiling and never complaining about his circumstances. We will miss him dearly but are comforted by the fact that he was welcomed home in the arms of Jesus and he’s now playing his beloved guitar and making beautiful music. We love you all. Rich was a fine man and I will always remember him fondly and with love. He never stopped developing his talents, from psychology to Western lore to music . . . . He was highly intelligent, stoic, and strong of character. He gave much to all with whom he had contact.

Roberta, how often I have thought of you and Rich these past weeks. I enjoyed our times together and will miss both of you. Rich was a joy to all he came in contact with. I enjoyed his thoughtfulness and kindness to me during our visits. He particularly enjoyed sharing his preparing for his lessons at his church. I think he enjoyed reading and thinking about the book I loaned him on “The Story of Methodism.” I told him once he was probably the only person to have read it! He then asked me if I had read it and I said, “Good Lord no.”
I am sorry that I will miss the service this Saturday Ellen and I are going south for a time but I can assure you that we will be thinking of you and your family.

I am so sorry to hear about Dr. King. I always enjoyed his stories and riddles. He was truly a unique soul. His passion for life and love really shined through. I’ll never forget the time he came strolling into the MRS office all dressed up in a cowboy outfit for Halloween. He made me smile every time I saw him. His chivalry showed that he was a true gentleman in every sense of the word. He treated everyone with love and respect. He will be sorely missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

I knew Rich in his role as a psychologist for Michigan Rehabilitation Services in Battle Creek. He always had a smile, sense of humor. You could tell he was very focused and dedicated to his work. So sorry for your loss.

I’m so sorry about the loss of Richard. I was unaware that he had passed away. I was thinking of him about a month ago when I received a paper magazine in the mail about Fly fishing in Michigan. I could’ve swore it was Berta and Richard on the cover, at sunset on a beautiful lake casting their reels into the water with smiles on their faces, both standing tall.
Berta, I’d like to send you an important document in the mail regarding my employment through Health Partners, as a home health aide for Richard. Is there any way that I can send it to a P.O. box if you don’t want to email me your address? Its really urgent.
