Rachel P. Richer

Rachel passed away, Saturday, February 17, 2024, in Bradenton, Florida where she has been a resident since 1999. 

She was born January 29, 1939, in Eupora, Mississippi, the daughter of Audrey and Ruth (Boatman) Baird. Rachel worked at several area businesses over the years, including Jolly Kids, Gibson Guitar, Kal-Equip, Parker Hannifin and retired from Walgreens at the age of 84. 

In her free time, she enjoyed shopping, traveling, taking walks, cooking, gardening and canning. Rachel had a beautiful home in Florida where she loved entertaining her family and many friends for the last 27 years. She had many lifelong friends who were an important part of her life. 

Rachel was a beautiful, classy, down to earth woman who worked hard to take care of those she loved. On July 10, 1954, in Houston, Mississippi, she married John Doss who passed away in 1989. On July 3, 1995, In Gatlinburg, Tennessee, she married David Richer who survives. 

Also surviving are her children, Patsy (Albert) Hoekstra of Martin, Joyce Nelson of Otsego, John Mitchell Doss of Otsego, Rodney (Kelly Howell) Doss of Otsego and Mark (Cindy) Doss of Hamilton; step-children, Craig, Misty and Tammy; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; 2 sisters along with many nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John; son-in-law, Denny Nelson; daughter-in-law, Brenda Doss and by her 5 siblings. 

Friends may visit with Rachel’s family from 6-8 PM, Friday, March 8, 2024, at the Winkel Funeral Home in Otsego. 

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 P.M., Saturday, March 9, 2024, at the Martin United Methodist Church with Pastor Maggie Stoken officiating.

Private family burial of ashes will take place at Mountain Home Cemetery in Otsego.
