My memories of Uncle Sam stem back to when l was about 5 years old. He was so very sweet to my sister Terri and l. We used to visit him at the gas station in Plainwell. He used to let us play like we were the cashiers and we would add things up on his 10 key adding machine, we would beg to go visit him. I remember at graduation he yelled out my name and said there’s my girl. I acted embarressed yet was so delighted to be acknowledged with his loud cheer of encourgement. His spirit was always that of a young, happy fellow that had no concept of time, right Aunt Carolynn? Even when l visited him this past August, l was shocked at how youthful he appeared at 75. Forever a Peter Pan…Until l see you again…RIP my dear Uncle Sam.

We are so very saddened to hear this about Sam. My family has known him for for many many years. He was a good friend to my parents (John and Hazel Rice) and was such a great friend to my brother, Phillip. He helped and supported him so much during his last years of life. Sam will be missed and remembered with fondness. So sorry for your loss. He was a wonderful man!

What a quiet giant. Sam was…such an amazing friend to Chuck and Judy. He was there in his quiet way to do great things to help them whenever there was a need. His generosity and unconditional friendship, I will never forget. Thanks,Sam.

Sam has been a friend to my family for too many years to count. I always appreciated his humor and his concern for my mom as her health declined. Sam always had an idea for how to “fix it” and it might take some time but he always got it done. We will miss him. Carolyn you are in our thoughts and prayers.

We both have so many memories of Sam. Many of which took place either in his shop or his barn at home. A “quick” drop in always lasted much longer. As trucking stories were shared and his latest “project “ was discussed at length. We are so very sad to hear of his passing and he will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
