Paul Allen Holtman of Otsego, Michigan, was taken home peacefully to the Lord surrounded by his loving family on Monday, June 11, 2018.
Paul was born on April 28, 1940 in Kalamazoo to Claus and Ruth (VerHage) Holtman. He graduated from Richland High School. Paul married Connie Hurley on October 24, 1959 at the Plainwell United Methodist Church. He owned Holtman Chevrolet in Gobles, Michigan. Paul enjoyed his time outdoors waterskiing, fishing, hunting mushrooms, and especially deer hunting. He was a true sportsman, playing basketball and softball on the church league as well as racquetball. Paul was a man of faith and a lifelong member of the Twin Lakes Reformed Church in Kalamazoo. He teased his grandchildren lovingly by giving them silly names, stealing food off their plates, and getting in trouble with grandma until she would twist his ear and throw him in the pool. They loved it!
Paul is survived by his wife of 58 ½ years, Connie; daughters, Jill (David) Reyes, Vicki (Jay) Dunham, Dawn (Dennis) Brown and Ana (Dale) Hedberg; grandchildren, Heather Kiel; Cody Bonnell; Bailey Ray; Alexandra Pilch; John, Holt, and Skylar Dunham; Kendra, Emily and Dylan Brown; Levi, Asher and Vanessa Hedberg; great grandchildren, Peyton Brown and Alex Kiel; siblings, Art (Phyllis) Holtman, Grace Demi and Jean (Burt) Adam.
A Dessert Memorial Open House will be held on Tuesday June 19 at the residence. Family will gather at 6:30 pm and friends will be welcomed from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm. Memorials may be made to his family for final expenses.
Winkel Funeral Home in Otsego is serving the family. Messages of condolence may be posted at

The Passing of Your Companion
The closeness of pain that follows your suffering heart.
Such as that when your loving partner suddenly had to depart.
The haunting images now lingering about in your abandoned mind.
Thoughts that never lingered before and most always are very ill-timed.
Until this tragic event unfolded with all reasoning undefined.
To your intellect of which you are now confined.
The familiarity of grief that now fills your sorrowful thinking.
To a labyrinth of unfading memories to savor, while normal thoughts, you are still so seeking.
A lifespan together that now seems to have been sorrowfully aborted.
With long and empty trails that now appear deserted.
How could this kind of misery be bestowed to mankind?
As the rivers bend came and left your companion behind.
Black clouds now fill your meaningless head with total despair.
As you search for what was once there, but only complete emptiness is everywhere.
With that of the likes of a laboring phone, that now has just stopped ringing.
Or with the simplicity of that of a windblown wheat field, yet another day is dawning.
Life it seems is so bittersweet, yet only possesses that of which we were created.
To heaven soars their immortal soul as your heart has temporarily been vacated. LARRY LEONARD

I barely knew Paul, when I met him I was only about 8 years old. My dad bought an orange corvette from him back then and my dad really liked him alot. I’m sorry for your loss. James Simpson.

Connie and Family.
I had thought I had written on here back in June but just checked and did not see it so either I didn’t do it like I thought or I did something wrong and it didn’t go through. Please know that Jerry and I are sending our most sincere sympathy to you and your family. We are so sorry for your loss, Connie. Please take care and hang in there. We are thinking of you.
