Norman K. Hughes

Norman K. Hughes of Otsego, Michigan, passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2011, in Plainwell. Mr. Hughes was born March 12, 1924 in Otsego to Harry and Vera (Keech) Hughes and was a lifelong resident of the area.

During WWII he served his country in the U.S. Navy. For many years he worked for Pickett & Squire and then Millbocker Construction as an operating engineer and as a crane operator in commercial construction and building roads. In his leisure time he often dug ponds, cleared land and did other excavation work just because he enjoyed it. Norm was a member of the V.F.W., the American Legion and the Otsego Moose Lodge. He enjoyed fishing, farming and fixing things.

Surviving are his wife of 65 years,

Joyce Hughes

of Plainwell; a daughter and a son, Susan K. (Gregory) Temple of Allegan and Norman “Chip” “Ray” Hughes of Otsego; 9 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 4 siblings, Margaret Crane, Ruth Thornton, Lee Hughes and James Hughes; a sister-in-law, Kate Hughes; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter and 2 sons, Sharon Lee Hughes, Mark Richard Hughes and Michael Eugene Hughes; and siblings, Harry, Ray, Steve, Darl, Mary and Wayne. Friends may visit with his family from 6 to 8 P.M. Friday at the

Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego

, where Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, with Celebrant Bill Rose officiating. Cremation will follow the service.

Dear Joyce and Family;

Just would like you all to know how many lifes Norm touched. He was one Great man and one Great friend to so many people. Norm would be there to help anyone that called him or just show up. He had more friends then anyone I know. Thank you all for sharing him with us. May GOD bless and keep you with thoughts and good memories of Norm and know he will be missed by us all.

A good man and a good friend. Norm helped me out on building my home. He was always there for those who needed him. It was an honor to be his friend. May the good Lord bless him and his family.

Norma was a very special person, loved by all. Roger worked with Norm in construction, and enjoyed being around him. What a loss for all of us’ Our prayers are with the family. Norm we will see you in Heaven, God Bless’
