assed away Tuesday, December 15, 2009, in Kalamazoo. Mrs. Shaffer was born March 24, 1924 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Howard and Marguerite (Higgins) Ladd. Nadene was a 1944 graduate of Otsego High School. In her early years she was a good swimmer and diver and worked at the Coating Mill and at Coburn’s Drug Store. For many years, she was the bookkeeper for Homer’s food distribution business. After his retirement in 1984, they traveled extensively in their motor home. She enjoyed bowling, bingo, garage sales, shopping and especially spending time with her family. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. On June 21, 1946, she married
Charles ‘Homer’ Shaffer
and they celebrated 63 years of marriage. Homer died October 8, 2009. Surviving are two daughters,
Rhonda (Pat) McGonagle
of Florida and Jackie (Gordon) Stineback of Otsego; four grandchildren, Jodi (Maurice) Lelii of Florida, Scott (Brooke) Hinz, of Florida, Jamie (Josh) Jameson of Otsego and Amie (Jesse) Proctor of Plainwell; 12 great-grandchildren, Vincent, Jerin, Macy, Jayden, Ethan, Maya, Kaylin, Michaela, Evan, Gabrielle, Allie and Elliot; a sister,
Jackie Ladd
, of Otsego; many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Sgt. Eugene Ladd in 1944. In keeping with her wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday at
Winkel Funeral Home
with funeral celebrant, Bill Rose, officiating. Interment of ashes will be at Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego. A luncheon at V.F.W. Post #3030 will follow the service. Contributions in memory of Nadene may be made to the Alamo Nursing Home.

Even though it has been a while I want to leave a message about my Aunt and Uncle (Howard’s daughter). I am sorry for their passing and wish I could have said goodbye. You are all in my prayers. Love cousin JoAnn to Rhonda and Jackie.
