Michelle E. Smith

Michelle Elaine Smith passed away Sunday, November 15, 2015 at her home in Plainwell.

She was born February 24, 1956 in Kalamazoo the daughter of Charles and Jean (Sage) Smith. Michelle served her country in the US Army. For many years she was an LPN at many area nursing homes and hospitals. Michelle loved volunteering and helping others she also enjoyed reading, gardening and raising chickens.

Surviving are her son, Robert Smith; granddaughter, MaKayla Rashelle Smith; siblings, Larry (Sue) Martin, Charlene (Craig) Maclaine, Edward (Tina) Smith, Ramona (Dennis) King, Jeff (Delana) Smith and Bill Smith along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents. According to her wishes cremation has taken place.

Friends may visit with Michelle’s family starting at 2:00 P.M. Friday, November 20, 2015, until the time of the Memorial Service at 3:00 P.M at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego with Larry Martin officiating.

Contributions in memory of Michelle may be made to the

Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.

I watched that last breath, your face was radiant, beautiful as you reached out to grab the hand of the angel that guided you home. The house isn’t empty of people, but we all feel the emptiness in our hearts. Your son is so strong. I know you are proud. I know you are free of pain and have already earned your wings. You had them here on earth, you just couldn’t see them, but everyone else could. This isn’t goodbye. You are there….just waiting….around the corner. I hope to see you in my dreams. I am so sorry for your loss. She was an amazing woman and taught me a lot in the nursing field. I always knew when she was around with her bright yellow truck with her fancy Imanurse licence plate. She will be missed. Always thinking of her.

You had been taken from us way too soon… We love you and know you are in a better place with your beautiful wings on! Michelle was as stubborn as a OX but the most loving and caring person at the same time, this is what I admired you for the most. You will always live on through Robert, MiMi and the entire Smith family. You will also live on with all the great memories that all of us got the pleasure to be a part of with you. We miss you already but will celebrate you every day of our lives and will continue to treasure all the great times we had with you.

Michelle was one of kind. She will be missed by many. My heart goes out to Robert and Makayla who were her world! And her entire family and friends as well. She had a wonderful family that wad able to support her at home til the end. Peace be with all.

Michelle, Your strength and Faith helped keep me strong thru this last year, now that you are absent from my eyes but never from my Heart and you continue on your Journey I pray to find the strength and Faith that you have shown us. My dear Michelle….you were always an inspiration to me. Your unwavering faith, courage and smiles. When I was told Monday that you had passed, I wouldn’t allow myself to believe it! Amidst my tears, a gentle voice reminded me that you are now held and free from pain. When you and your sister visited with me last week, I prayed and prayed for a miracle. That same voice told me that you transitioned when you did, to free you from any additional pain. I ranted for only a moment, as this was Truth. I love you.

I was deeply saddened upon learning of the passing of Michelle.Although growing apart with the years, we had a great friendship since meeting in 5th grade. We had a lot of fun and made great memories. We reunited with Facebook several years ago, and attended our 35th High School reunion together. I regret that I didn’t know of her illness.RIP Michelle and we will rejoice knowing we will see you again!!

I first got to know Michelle when she started working at Parker Hannifin under a temporary service. She was a very pleasant person. And didn’t run into her for a while after she left there until she started working at Midway Chevrolet. And it was at that time we learned that she lived just down the street from us. A few months ago we ran into her once again while we were at Gun Lake Casino and at that time she told us of her illness and how she planned on going on a trip I believe with her granddaughter. Michelle’s son and granddaughter meant the world to her and all she cared about at that time was trying to make their lives a little easier after her passing. She was one very brave lady. Dan and I want to extend our deepest and most sincere sympathy to her son Robert and her granddaughter MaKayla. and her entire family. May you R.I.P. Michelle
