Michael passed away, Sunday, January 14, 2024, at his home in Kalamazoo.
He was born on September 29, 1957, in Plainwell, to his loving parents Raymond and Joyce (Griffith) Shattuck. Michael graduated from Plainwell High School in 1976. Following his graduation, Michael embarked on a fulfilling career in the HVAC field, where his expertise and dedication made a significant impact.
Although his professional achievements were admirable, Michael's true essence was found in his warm and selfless personality. He was an exceptional son, brother, and uncle who constantly put others before himself.
His generosity knew no bounds as he consistently exhibited unconditional love and loyalty to his family, friends, and neighbors. As a testament to his caring nature, Michael not only cherished his own family but also developed deep connections with his neighbors. He reveled in spending time with them and eagerly offered assistance whenever it was needed.
His genuine concern for others left an indelible mark on all those fortunate enough to cross paths with him. Michael's dedication to serving others extended beyond his immediate community. He served with immense pride in the U.S. Air Force and Air National Guard. Following in the footsteps of previous generations of military service members within his family, Michael felt an unwavering commitment to protecting and serving his country.
Outside of work and service duties, Michael found solace in various hobbies and interests. He was a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local 357—an organization that enabled him to connect with fellow professionals in his field. Nature and being outdoors brought Michael immense joy. He loved spending time camping and hunting.
Surviving are his father, Raymond Shattuck, and his siblings Debra Rheault, Karen Verploegh, and Raymond P. Shattuck, along with their spouses. He also leaves behind nieces Michelle O'Regan and Katy O'Regan, nephews Eric Young, Matthew Young, and Zane Shattuck, as well as great-nieces and nephews Ayden Young, Addison Young, and Cade Young.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Joyce.
According to his wishes cremation has taken place.
A memorial service will be held in the spring.
Burial of ashes will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta.
Michael loved animals, especially dogs, in lieu of flowers contributions in his memory may be made to Wishbone Pet Rescue.
