Michael E. Osborn

Michael passed away, Thursday, October 19, 2023 at Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo.

He was born January 23, 1942 in Lawrence the son of Donald and Ida (Ziestmann) Osborn. Michael graduated from Bangor High School where he participated in the 4-H farming program. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and proudly served in the Vietnam War.

Michael was a self-taught industrial electrician, working for Lyon Machine Builders of Kalamazoo, Deuwell Products in Bangor and Crane America in Indiana. Michael moved to Kentucky and lived with a family friend for a few years and returned to Plainwell in 2002.

He loved being outdoors, farming, mowing the lawn with his tractors and doing any kind of work he could do. He also enjoyed watching baseball and football. Michael loved to bake and cook and made his own wine for many years. Michael loved cats, especially his best friends, Midnight, Sheldon and Tigger. He was a member of the Otsego VFW and enjoyed many nights there playing cards and attending the fish fries.

Michael was a loving, dedicated, generous and selfless man. It didn’t matter if he knew someone for 5 minutes or 5 years, he would give the shirt off his back to help them out. He was a son, brother, father, grandpa, uncle and friend to so many people.

Surviving are his sons, Jamie Osborn, Michael (Mary) Osborn and Justin Osborn; grandchildren, Amanda (Jacob) McElroy, Cassidy Osborn, Josh Osborn, Aubrey Osborn and Gia Osborn; great-granddaughter, Winona McElroy; step-grandchildren, Julie (Matt) Pueblo, Josh (Jessica) Skillman and Brooklyn (Julia) Skillman; step-great-grandchildren, Nya, Lexi, Lucas and Kylie Pueblo and Grace Skillman; brother, Paul (Haley) Osborn along with many extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Steven Osborn.

Michael’s family would like to thank the staff at Kauhale of Otsego, Borgess Hospital and Rose Arbor Hospice for the exceptional care they provided Michael in his last few days.

Friends may visit with Michael’s family starting at 10:00 A.M., Monday, October 23, 2023, at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 A.M., with family friend, Andrew Brock officiating.

Burial will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta.

Those attending the funeral are encouraged to wear a flannel and jeans as that was Michael’s go to outfit.

Contributions in memory of Michael may be made to the Otsego VFW Post #3030 or to Rose Arbor Hospice.

Our Sincerest Condolences To The Osborn Family … Mike was a truly nice guy, always willing to help with our VFW Post 3030 fish-fry raffles, helping to get our tickets ready for the drawing. We loved sharing recipes with him and baking ‘tips’ … RIP Mike, You Will Be Missed.
