Michael Allison

Michael ‘Korea’ Allison of Plainwell, Michigan passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, September 13, 2011. Michael was born to Sgt. Ivan and Cho Bok (Yi) Allison, in Tang-Jin, S. Korea. He was raised there, until 1993, when he came to Camden, New Jersey. He came to Michigan in 1995, and became a member of a chosen family through Harvey and Carol Visser. He lived in Plainwell, and worked for Spartan Stores Graphic Services as a web press operator for 12 years. He was a devoted father of 3, and took great joy in raising them. He was firm and affectionate. It was important to Michael that his children be responsible, educated and have useful skills that they could benefit from. He was an avid sportsman, who was good at everything he attempted, however softball was his passion. Whether he was coaching or playing, his joy of the game was infectious. To know Mike was to love Mike. He was very giving of himself and accepting of others. He will be greatly missed by all his many, many, MANY friends.

Surviving are his children, Kirah Pinkman of New Jersey (G.R.), Donovan and Kyra Allison of Plainwell; his father, Sgt. Ivan Allison of Berlin, New Jersey; brothers and sisters, Jin-Hee Lee of S. Korea, Micheol (Nicole) Kang of Otsego, Kathleen (Dan) Cunningham of Portage, Marcia (John) Beare of Martin, Barbara (Dan) Boersma of Allegan, Dale (Amy) Visser of Hudsonville, Shannon Visser of Holland, and Melissa Dalrymple of Otsego; his God daughter, Kayla Shook; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephew and cousins in Michigan, New Jersey and S. Korea. He was preceded in death by his mother, Cho Bok (Yi) Allison.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, September 23, 2011 at the

Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego

, with Elder John Lanphear officiating. Cremation will follow the funeral services, and he will be going home to S. Korea to be laid to rest with his mother.

To the family of Michael,

I have spent many summers enjoying Michaels rare sense of humor on the softball fields, he was truly amazing to watch and quite possibly the fastest base runner I have ever seen.

His friendship will be missed by my husband Frosty as well as the many other players who called Michael friend.

May he rest in peace.

Mike will be greatly missed. He had a great sense if humor and always seem to know when you needed to laugh. He was also one hell of a ball player. Miss you man!

Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free.

I’m following the path God has laid you see.

I took His hand when I heard Him call.

I turned my back and left it all.

I could not stay another day,

To laugh, to love, to work or play.

Tasks left undone must stay that way.

I found that peace at the close of the day.

If my parting has left a void,

Then fill it with remembered joys.

A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,

Oh yes, these things I too will miss.

Be not burdened with times of sorrow.

I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.

My life’s been full, I savored much,

Good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch.

Perhaps my time seemed all too brief.

Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.

Lift up your hearts and peace to thee.

God wanted me now; He set me free

Mike, you will be missed! The smile that brought smiles to several faces out of on the field and wave when a friend walked by! The Lord has a wonderful person in his hands now!

I had the pleasure of working with Michael at Spartan Stores. He was an extremely hard working individual and very athletic person. He was very giving, always had a smile on his face, and could make people laugh with his unique humor. He will be greatly missed by all of those who knew him.
