Our beloved “Tootie” passed away on September 16, 2021. She was surrounded by her loving husband, children, and grandchildren.
Maxine is survived by her husband of 55 years, John D. Horvath; her sister Michelle Baker (Ken) of Lakeview; her daughter and son in law, Donna & Eric Mahieu of Holland; her son and daughter in law, John & Kimberly Horvath of Big Rapids; her daughter, Emily Horvath of Lansing; and her son and daughter in law, Gregory & Bre Horvath of Galesburg. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Leslieann Seekell (Alex), Erin Payton (Zach), Devon Kessler (Kyle), John David Horvath, II, Kayla Horvath, Morgan Horvath, Keagan Horvath, and Aedan Horvath. She was fortunate enough to meet her 5 great-grandchildren.
Maxine enjoyed a long career as a pharmacist with 25 years at Community Pharmacy, now Moore’s Family Pharmacy, in Plainwell. She loved being a pharmacist and built numerous friendships with her customers. Friendship was the foundation of so much of what Maxine did and stood for. She was an avid fan of monarch butterflies, roses, The Beatles, and her favorite, James Taylor.
If you knew Maxine, know that she would want you to smile whenever you see a monarch, or when the sun hits your face just right. Dance around your kitchen and be happy knowing that you are loved and perfect just the way you are because you are a child of God, and God doesn’t make mistakes. She is at peace.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to St. Vincent de Paul of Otsego or Heartland Hospice.

John, Sharon and I were very sorry to hear of Toot’s passing. It doesn’t seem possible but we have known you and Toot for over 50 years and always enjoyed getting together . She was a great help to me at the pharmacy. The last time we saw the two of you was about three years ago and Toot appeared to be well at that time, At that time we said we would have to get together for lunch, but we never did that.
Please share our condolences with your growing family.
