Mary Ann Lorentz passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 17, 2022 with her sister by her side. She was born to Anton (Big Tony) Lorentz Sr and Mary (Whitcomb) Lorentz on February 8
th
, 1942, in Kalamazoo, MI. She was a life-long resident of Alamo Township where she grew up on The Lone Willow Farm milking cows, baling hay and enjoying time with her family.
Beginning at an early age, Mary Ann often went with her mother to care for the cemeteries of family members, a tradition which she continued for the rest of her years. She was an active 4H member and attended the one-room Alamo school before transitioning to St. Augustine High School where she graduated with many beloved classmates in 1960. She then continued onto Parsons Business School leading her to a career as a credit specialist for First Community Federal Credit Union as well as Bemis and Son, Art Van, Borgess Hospital and Boylan Sales.
Immediately after retiring, Mary Ann dedicated herself to the true passions in her life which were her faith in our Heavenly Father, caring for the children in her family, volunteering in her church and community and making baby blankets for many. She loved big and cherished her family and friends with all her heart, always ready with an extra hug and helping hand. Many will fondly remember the large batches of homemade cookies she baked for family and friends – chocolate chip, molasses and peanut butter. She also loved sewing, her many kitties (often taking in strays), working in her gardens and enjoying the birds she loved to feed.
A devoted catholic and member of St. Margaret Catholic Church in Otsego, Mary Ann was actively involved in supporting the local food pantry and funeral luncheons. She made many dear friends within those circles of amazing people and held them very close to her heart. She greatly missed those activities and friendships when dementia took a devastating toll on her life.
We are so thankful that God has called her home where she is free from pain and sadness. Many thanks to all the loving and caring staff at Alamo Nursing Home who took care of her on that difficult journey.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents and will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by her family, Dianne and Tim Janssen, Gayle Lorentz, Tony Lorentz and Anna Csernak, Rita Morrison, Rebecca and Tuan Hoang, Elizabeth and Chad Holland, Tiffany Todd, Tony and Marcie Lorentz, Carrie and Rich Eldred, Hope Morrison, Susan Morrison, Robert and Melissa Morrison, Hannah Todd, Trevor Todd, Nyah Eldred, Sydney Holland, Summer Morrison, Braylin Eldred, Cassie Holland, Xuan Hoang, Caira Hoang and Payton Todd as well as many dear cousins and friends.
A celebration of Mary Ann’s life will be held on Tuesday, November 22nd at St. Margaret’s Church in Otsego.
Visitation will start at 10:00am and her funeral mass will be held at 11:00am.
There will be a luncheon after mass followed by the burial service at St. Margaret’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Ministry in Otsego or other outreach program.

I had the enjoyment of many years in 4-H with Mary Ann, and her mother leading the group. It sounds like she led a very fulfilled life. May she rest in peace and may all of our memories be cherished.
