Mark passed away Sunday, January 28, 2018 surrounded by his family at Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo.
He was born April 11, 1925 in Astoria, NY, the son of Mark Sr. and Anna (McCallister) McGowan. Mark proudly served his country in the US Army during WWII. For 40 years he had been a civil engineer for Tully Contracting in Flushing, NY and had worked on many construction projects in New York.
Mark was a member of the United States Neptune Power Squadron, The Moles, North Port Yacht Club and St. Hugh of Lincoln Catholic Church in Huntington Station.
He spent 53 wonderful years with his wife, Dorothea Curtis until her passing in 2005.
Surviving are his children, Mark A. III (Maureen) McGowan of VA, Michael McGowan of FL, Stephen (Therese Andrews) McGowan of Kalamazoo and Eileen (Stephen) Rufle of VA, 6 grandchildren, Matthew, Stephanie, Caitlin, Maura, Mark and Amanda and his close friend, Roxanne McDonald.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sister, Eleanor.
Friends may visit with Mark’s family from 2-4 P.M. and 6-8 P.M., Wednesday, January 31, 2018 with a rosary service at 7:30 P.M., at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, February 1, 2018 at St. Margaret Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Simon Manjooran officiating.
Burial will take place in Queens, NY at a later time.
Contributions in memory of Mark may be made to St. Margaret Catholic Church.

Please accept my deepest sympathy. Mark held a special place in my heart since I brought communion to him each week while he was at Friendship Village. May he rest peacefully in our Lord’s arms.
