Marie Grace Mahieu passed away peacefully on July 9, 2023 surrounded by family.
Marie was born on October 17, 1935 to Abraham and Ruth DeRuyscher in Kalamazoo Michigan. She attended Kalamazoo Central High School and graduated in 1954. Before that, however, she met the love of her life Gordon Mahieu in 1952 on a “blind” date and the rest, as they say, is history. On June 7, 1958 they were married and made their home in Kalamazoo Michigan for 65 joy filled years. Marie was an avid reader and a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her husband Gordon, son Tim (Kathy) Mahieu, daughter Susan Mahieu-Phillips (Greg) as well as her grandchildren Mitchell Phillips, Emma Phillips, Grace and Gus Mahieu and her sister, Nancy Nethercutt.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Friends may visit with Marie’s family starting at 2:00 P.M., Friday, July 14, 2023 at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, until the time of the funeral service at 3:00 P.M., with Rev. Thomas Davenport and Rev. Mike Tupper officiating.
Burial will follow at Mountain Home Cemetery in Otsego.
Contributions in memory of Marie may be made to the Kalamazoo County 4-H Program.

We were saddened by this news. Marie was special to Christine “Marie” (Welcher) Campbell, Christine’s parents chose her middle name in honor of Aunt Marie. Our love, thoughts, and prayers are with the entire family.
