Maggie passed away, Monday, January 27, 2025, at Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born October 19, 1933, in Otsego, the daughter of Ervin and Frances (Cool) Pion. Maggie was an avid reader and enjoyed listening to Lawrence Welk and dancing. She liked spending time with her neighbor Jane, camping with her husband and traveling.
A sports fan, she enjoyed watching golf and following football, especially the Dallas Cowboys, Detroit Lions, Michigan State and Notre Dame. Maggie was happiest when surrounded by her grandchildren, nieces and nephews. On October 26, 1951, she married Duane “Duke” Powers, and they shared many wonderful years together until his passing in 1992. Maggie was a member of the VFW Post 3030 Women’s Auxiliary and was a past member with her husband of the Otsego Moose and Elks Lodge.
Surviving are her daughter, Mary (Craig) Riddle of Florida; grandchildren, Paul (Jenna) Blake, Perry Blake, Eric (Andrea) Riddle and Lucas Riddle; great-grandchildren, Rebecca, Jackson, Connor, Nathan, Gabriella, Ashley, Parker, Delaney, Anthony, Brielle, Cayden, Ryleigh and Ethan; siblings, Sharon Shattuck, Sally Judd and Cheryl Burd; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Jane Ann Powers and siblings, Helen Johnson, Wes Pion, Jim Pion, Alice Taylor, Howard Pion, Kaye Ramp and Charles “Butch” Pion and her beloved dog, Duchess.
According to her wishes cremation has taken place.
A memorial service and burial of ashes at Mountain Home Cemetery in Otsego will take place in the spring.
