Margaret passed away Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at Stanford Lodge in Plainwell with several family members at her side.
She was born December 1, 1926 in Otsego, the daughter of Alfred and Ethel (Fox) Rice. Margaret worked at Plainwell Sanitarium, Otsego Public Schools as a tutor and for 11 years at Stanford Lodge until her retirement at age 70. She enjoyed reading, doing puzzles with the women in her condo complex, watching talent competition shows, especially Dancing with the Stars and you knew not to call when it was on, and playing cards. If she was playing cards she was probably cheating at them! On October 21, 1944 she was married to Russell Filkins Sr. in Otsego, MI.
Surviving are her children, Teri (Jack) Laster, Pat Filkins and Russ (Annie Maccune) Filkins; 11 grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; sister, Betty Martin; special cousins, Kathy Corradini and Mark Rusan; son-in-law, Bill Shearer; step-siblings, Jim and Nancy as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Peggy Shearer and by siblings, Pauline, Burtie and Alfred Jr.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, February 5, 2022, at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, with Celebrant Bill Rose officiating, friends are asked to arrive between 1:30 and 2 P.M.
Cremation will follow.
Burial of ashes will take place at Mountain Home Cemetery in Otsego in the spring.

I usually only got to see Margaret at family functions and during summer outings. I enjoyed visiting with her and listening to her stories. I was always amazed at her memory, her quick wit & her appetite!!
She was very gentle lady and I will miss her.
