Malcom J. ‘Mac’ Barton of Otsego, Michigan, passed away Saturday December 5, 2009 at his home with his family by his side. Mac was born April 1, 1924 in Otsego, the son of Milo and Esther (Martin) Barton. He graduated from Otsego High School and was an Army veteran of World War II. When he was young, he obtained his pilot’s license and was a mechanic for a stock car racing team at Kalamazoo Speedway. He worked as a primary meter inspector for Consumers Power Co. for 32 years. His memberships include V.F.W. Post #3030 and the Otsego Elks. On May 13, 1944, in Aiken County, South Carolina he married the former Verna Hartlage and she survives. Also surviving are 1 daughter and 2 sons, Patricia (J.D.) Farmer of Taylorville, Kentucky, Mike (Ruby) Barton of Vicksburg, Lew (Ruth) Barton of Otsego; 7 grandchildren; many great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Tracy Barton, in 1995 and a brother Vern Barton. Friends may meet with his family from 6-8 P.M. Tuesday and from 10-12 noon on Wednesday at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego. Immediately following the Wednesday visitation, a graveside service with military honors by V.F.W. Post #3030 will be held at Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego, Pastor Jason Thiel officiating. A memorial luncheon will be held Saturday from 1-3 P.M. at V.F.W. Post #3030. Memorial contributions may be made to V.F.W. Post #3030 or Wings Of Hope Hospice.
