Lulu Lewis

Lulu L. Lewis of Otsego, Michigan, passed away Monday, December 5, 2011, in Plainwell. Mrs. Lewis was born August 21, 1916 in Allegan to Otto and Fern (Russon) Nimtz and was a lifelong resident of the area.

Lulu was a devoted homemaker and loved her family more than anything. In her younger years she and her husband were members of several square dance clubs. She also enjoyed knitting, crafting, traveling, was a prolific crocheter and loved playing the organ.

On September 30, 1937 in Elkhart, Indiana, she married Harlan Lewis, and they had celebrated 47 years together. He died in 1985. Also preceding her in death were her parents and a sister, Mildred Boysen.

Surviving are three children, Don (Sandy) Lewis of Kalamazoo, Sally (Steve) DeWitt of Tumbling Shoals, AR and Tom (Pam) Lewis of Otsego; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; her brother and a sister, Art Nimtz and Clara (Jack) Howrigon, both of Otsego; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit with her family from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Thursday at the

Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego

, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday. Burial will follow at Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego.

Alzheimer’s Association

Remembering our good neighbor:

We remember one year when we put up our Christmas lights Lulu came over and wanted us to view them from her home as from that view the lights in one tree looked like a reindeer. It was totally accidental but we all enjoyed it. We remember on summer days when Lulu’s windows and doors were open hearing her playing her organ. We remember how self reliant she was taking care of all the chores relating to her home. I remember while we were both mowing our lawns I wandered over to her to have a neighborly chat and she said you know I’m 87. We remember Lulu each Christmas when we hang the crocheted ornaments she made for us. We liked her very much and we will miss our good neighbor. Our thoughts are with her family.

Sorry Don, I didn’t make it to the visitation or the funeral. I remember your Mom well and her sister Mildred too.. Used to carry out her groceries. Our condolences on your loss. Alzheimers is a terrible disease and its probably one of the worst for the family to watch progress. Our sincerest sympathies.
