Loretta
Loretta O. Lafountain
Loretta passed away Saturday, February 27, 2016 at her home in Plainwell.
She was born in Toledo, OH on November 11, 1917 the daughter of Gilbert and Hattie (Newman) Drewyor. Loretta lived through some hard times including the great depression. As a young girl she worked in the onion and potato fields. Later she had worked at Angle Steel for more than 25 years. On October 9, 1933 in Allegan she married Merlin LaFountain who passed away in 1965. Loretta was known as the “cookie grandma” and had always cared for others and her family. She wasn’t afraid to be plain spoken and was always ready to entertain. She enjoyed sitting on the porch in Kentucky and waving and talking with friends.
Surviving are her children, Lucille Bacon of Orangeville, Dick (Darlene) LaFountain of FL, Terry (Nancy) LaFountain of Plainwell and Lester LaFountain of KY along with well over 100 grand, great-grand, great-great-grand and great-great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Lilly Johnson; daughters-in-law, Darlene LaFountain and Lucille LaFountain; son-in-law, R.V. Bacon, many brothers, sisters and other close family members.
Friends may visit with Loretta’s family starting at 12:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 P.M. with Minister Duane Ellinger officiating.
Burial will follow at Oakhill Cemetery in Orangeville.

All my prayers to the family and friends. I know quite a few of you took very good care of Aunt Loretta.
My fondest memories were when Aunt Loretta and Uncle merl had the farm. She would let us kids bring in the newborn piglets that needed help staying warm. We would take them to bed with us.
After Uncle Merl passed she spent many hours with her sisters Grandma Bell and Aunt Desh. Her and Grandma could sure bake up some great cakes and pastries. Didn’t matter which house you went to you would be having coffee and desert. She was such a hard working person. Times were very tough and she got through them. Rest in peace Aunt Loretta

Loretta was a beautiful lady who was well known for her delicious pies and cookies. She always had a smile on her face and was a wonderful mother and grandmother. I’ll always remember her fondly as Grandma LaFountain. Loved her dearly.

Loretta worked with my brother that passed at an early age at Angle steel. I loved hearing her stories of what a wonder man he was. I like hearing her tell stories of her life and how she would help raise her grandkids. And how she would straighten them up when they misbehaved. She was a kind and gentle woman but, you didn`t get on her bad side! R.I.P. Grandma LaFountain ♥

First of all I would like to say I am sorry for your loss,Lorretta
was a wonderful lady,she loved her family and loved bakeing ,that is what I remember most about her,i learned a lot from her,when I was
in my twentys,and had three kids I would go visit her,she always welcomed you,and made you feel at home,i know everyone is going to miss her,but you have to be so thankful for all the years you all had her
and she injoyed her life till the end,may God bless all of you and help you all through this tuff time,love to all

Aunt Loretta was a wonderful person. I remember spending many times with her and Grandma Nickels at Aunt Loretta’s house in Plainwell. She was so funny and always kept us kids entertained. I am sure Mom and Grandma Nickels were so happy to see her again. Love you Aunt Loretta.

I’ll alway’s have fond memories of my grandmother and her, always together, and how she was there for my wife and I when my little boy was in the hospital.always a kind person, she will be missed,she’s back with my grandma now, god bless them both!

I became acquainted with Loretta after marrying Lana(Christina) Johnson Loretta’s neice! I felt a little intimidated at first but soon came to know of her charm and grace!! She said things as she saw them and at least you knew where you stood with her! I admired her spunk and tenacity and her no nonsense approach to life and family!! She had a large heart indeed and will be missed! She rests now in Jehovah’s memory to be awakened soon go a new beginning! Hope to see her then!!!

Aunt Loretta was a caring person her family took wonderful care for her inher later years as she took care of them when they were young.
She was a blessing to her family and friends. She was a great comfort during the loss of my parents Lawrence and Marie Drewyor.

to the family of aunt Loretta, mom will miss talking to her on her birthday and other times. we remember the times ada (our grandma and her sister) she spent with aunt esma and aunt Loretta. what a time they had cooking and baking. we always enjoyed the times we spent together. she will be missed. mom would have loved to make the funeral but bad weather and she’s 91
and other appointments have made it impossible for us to come.
there is a long life in that family. we all should be so lucky.

Loved aunt Loretta so many happy memories. my kids still talk about the time spent with her and Grandma Belle. She could bake anything. she loved having people around and feeding them. My sincerest thoughts to the La Fountain family. She will be missed
