Lolita Helen Parkhurst

Lolita Helen Parkhurst of Pullman, Michigan, passed away Thursday morning, August 26, 2010, at her home. Lolita was born January 22, 1926 in Chicago, IL to Peter and Julia (Wegmann) Kitcheos. In 1950 she earned her Bachelor degree from Valparaiso University and moved to Michigan, residing in Pullman since 1972. In 1967 she earned her Masters degree from Western Michigan University. For many years she taught at the Bloomingdale Schools, retiring in 1988. Lolita had been a member and organist of St. John Ev. Lutheran Church of Allegan since 1982. She was the President of the Retired School Teachers Association, a member of the Strudelmeisters (Polka) Band, Casco Township Band, South Shore Concert Band and life member of the American Dairy Goat Association. For over 35 years, Lolita worked with the Jewitt School at the Allegan County Fairgrounds. Surviving are six children, Sheri Lynn (Craig) Balzer of Colorado Springs, CO, Kathleen Ann Leader of Pullman, James Earl (Linda) Parkhurst of Phoenix, AZ, David Arthur (Rose) Parkhurst of Vacaville, CA, Debra Louise Parkhurst of Show Low, AZ and John Mark (Denise) Parkhurst of Pullman; 10 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; a sister, Carlyn Gianopolous; 2 brothers, Gus and Cornell Kitcheos; several nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. at St. John Lutheran Church, Allegan, Pastor Ronald Kruse officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John Ev. Lutheran Church. Burial of ashes will be at Rowe Cemetery, Cheshire. Arrangements by Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego.
