Lois Story
Lois E. Story of Otsego, Michigan, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2011, in Kalamazoo. Mrs. Story was born February 22, 1921 in Allegan to Frank and Bessie (Housworth) Stevens and was a lifelong resident of the area. She graduated from Otsego High School and the American Beauty School in Kalamazoo and worked for many years as a beautician. She also worked locally for the City of Otsego elections and for Winkel Funeral Home for many years.
Lois was an active member of the Otsego United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Susanna Circle and the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed bowling and for 55 years bowled on leagues with longtime friends and also loved playing cards. Lois especially enjoyed her grandchildren and cheering them on in their sports.
On December 22, 1943 in Otsego she married Robert ‘Bob’ Story, who died in 1999. Also preceding her in death were her parents; her brother and his wife, Lloyd and Bonnie Stevens; and a special friend, Donna Knight.
Surviving are two daughters and a son, Kathleen (David) Stratton of Kalamazoo, Linda (Dene) Hadden of South Haven and Richard (Terri) Story of Otsego; seven grandchildren, Todd (Carla) Stratton, Chad (Sheryl) Stratton, Becky Stratton, Lori (Steve) Pline, Julie (Mike) Loiacano, Brent (Laura) Hadden and Ryan Story; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Margaret (Leo) Weipert of Battle Creek; a dear friend, Avis Simless; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with her family from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Friday at the
Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego
. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday at the Otsego United Methodist Church, Pastor Joe Shaler officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego.

Love and prayers to all Lois’ family. We loved her so much. Thanks for sharing her with us! She was such a neat lady and playing cards will never be the same again. We will miss her dearly and we hope her and Bob are playing cards with our grandparents Donna & Kerm Knight in heaven now!

What a special lady Lois was. Considered a part of our family. We all bowled together for years and she loved playing cards with our family and did at every opportunity. As a child I remember she and Bob being around and I went to her mother’s (Bess) after school sometimes. She also loved going out to eat and going to the casino’s when she had the chance. She and my mom were best of friends and did lots of things together and she will be missed by her friends and family.
My sincerest sympathy to Kathy, Linda and Richard and their families.
Lois and mom can now bowl, play cards and go to eat together again just like before.

My prayers go out to Lois’ family. She was always such a joy to be around and she is with her family in heaven now, still singing praises to our Lord. She’s caring about those she left behind, as she cared for her mother while she was still on earth. Your pain of loss will fade with time, but remember, your memories of her will last forever. Be prayerful and glad for she is with the one who loves her most.. Bye Lois, see ya when I get there and save a spot at the card table for me.

My thoughts and prayers are with Lois’ family. I will miss her dearly and the time I spent with her playing cards. Even while spending time at the nursing home she still got a wonderful outfit for my newborn son Carsen. A truely amazing women!!!!!!!

Lois was always such an inspiration to women who visited our local Just Ours breast cancer support group over the past ten years or more. She would share her experiences with cancer and was always optimistic about the future. When I visited with her at Alamo she was laughing and talking about good times we’ve had and how her hair looked. She was so much fun, and I will surely miss our special breakfasts and Lois’ smiling face. I’m just sorry to miss the celebration of her life–it was a great one. Best wishes to Kathy, Linda, Richard, their families, and to our friend, Avis.

What a lovely service today. Such a testament to the kind loving soul of Lois. We will miss her so much at our Just Ours Support Group meetings. Her beautiful smile and those twinkling eyes no matter what she was going through; such an inspiration to all of us. Life’s journey has lots of speed bumps and she definitely was a testament that we need to keep swimming. My prayers are with her family and friends, especially Kathy and Avis, very special “sisters”. You will get through these days knowing she is now healed, bowling, playing cards, gambling, and continues to support others with that glowing smile and twinkling eyes. Linda

Aunt Lois was an inspiration to all of us. Her smile and encouragement reinforced us as we matured. Her brilliant outlook on life was definitely a motivation to all of her family and friends. I know she is with Mom and Dad (Lloyd and Bonnie) once again. The wonderful memories of Aunt Lois will be with me always.

I share all the same thoughts as my brother.
One of thoughts is the great holidays spent with her & I will never forget her homemade rice krispy treats, just for us kids, (She made up giant lambs one year)
