Liane passed away Friday, August 30, 2024, at her home on Pine Lake. 

She was born July 15, 1940, in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Robert and Mary (Nicholas) Harney. Liane attended Western Michigan University where she was a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. She went to work at Upjohn until she married and started a family. 

Once her children were older, Liane worked as an administrative assistant for 23 years at St. Margaret Catholic Church where she was also an active member. Always wanting to stay busy, Liane enjoyed working with her son at Riley Farms. 

In her free time, she enjoyed making stained glass, jewelry and sculptures. Liane loved playing tennis and golf, gardening and doing genealogy research. She was a member of the Chula Vista Garden Club. On December 21, 1963, she married William Riley who passed away in January. 

Surviving are her children, Melissa (Jeff) Bradford, Veronica (Mike) Martens and William “Butch” Riley II; grandchildren, Cassidy, Morgan, Finn and Magnus; her siblings, Ronald “Ron” Harney and Rosemary “Bunny” LaDuke along with several nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, Robert “Bobby” Harney. 

According to her wishes, cremation has taken place. 

Friends may visit with Liane’s family starting at noon on Friday, September 6, 2024, at St. Margaret Catholic Church in Otsego, until the time of the Memorial Mass starting at 1:00 P.M., with Rev. Fr. Simon Manjooran officiating. 

Burial of ashes will follow at St. Margaret Cemetery in Otsego. 

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Liane may be made to Tallgrass Sudbury School, LaGrange, IL or Wings of Hope Hospice of Allegan.
