Leroy A. Dunklee
LeRoy A. Dunklee of Otsego, Michigan, passed away Friday, June 17, 2011 at Life Care Center in Plainwell.
LeRoy was born February 15, 1961 in Plainwell to Vernon and Mary (Adams) Dunklee and had been a lifelong resident of the area. He was a friend to everyone who knew him.
LeRoy had worked many odd jobs for area businesses and friends, he enjoyed fishing, animals (especially feeding the squirrels), riding his bike and his friends.
Surviving are four sisters, Kathy Plotts, Shirley (Joe) Baldwin, Joyce (Dale) Cooper and Chris Quigley; and many nieces and nephews. LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother Vernon “Jr.” Dunklee.
Cremation has taken place. Friends may meet with the family for a memorial service on Saturday, July 2, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the Otsego V.F.W. Post #3030.
His family would like to thank and acknowledge his special friends; Shirley Foster, Lisa Brown and the staff who cared for LeRoy at Life Care Center of Plainwell.
Contributions in memory of LeRoy may be made to Wings of Hope Hospice.

Leroy was a great guy! I’ve known him most of my life. He rode the bus with us as kids, he fished, camped and hung out at my dad’s farm. He had a big heart and a unique sense of humor. I’m going to miss him a lot.
My special thanks to the staff of HEARTLAND HOSPICE for helping me take care of him for so long. And to their counselor, Amy Fialko, who helped me get a grant towards his funeral expenses.

Dearest Leroy,
Otsego will never be the same. You are/were a true Otsego icon Leroy.
We will miss your gentle and kind heart, your happy smile, your friendly wave, your unhesitating way of stopping whatever you were doing just to say hello, your bicycle ~~ There is so much more~ however, words could never paint a true picture of the real you and your love for others ~~
Yes, all the special things about you are just plain indescribable.
For this is what made you, YOU ~~ and made you loved by us all.
Oh Leroy, you will be truly missed more than you could ever imagine.

So sorry Leroy had to go thru what he did and our condolences to the family and to Shirley & Lisa and all of his many friends. I remember Leroy hanging out at our dad’s farm and Dad would pay him to do a lot of small jobs for him, make him a sandwich & give him a beer. Leroy was always willing to help anyone. LeRoy also came to our family reunions and get togethers at “the pond”. We sort of thought of him as another brother. He will be missed

I met Leroy when I was a teenager. I was in a bad place, and he bought me fries… I hadn’t eaten in 3 days. I told him I was fine, and he said “I can’t do much, but please let me help you”… It was one of the greatest random acts of kindness I have ever experienced. I don’t know how he knew I needed it, but he did.
I had a chance to talk with him last summer (the 1st time since then, almost 20 yrs. later), and he said he didn’t remember it. But I do, and always will. I am so glad I had the chance to give him $20. He didn’t want to take it, and I told him “I can’t do much, but please take this, and pay it forward”. He said he would and thanked me. I told him that it is I who am thankful, and that I would never forget what he did. I promised that I would pay it forward as much as possible, and I will.
Thank you for your loving spirit. The world was a kinder place, because of you… You are my angel of mercy. RIP

LeRoy there are are so many numerous ways to describe you my dear Uncle , but one kind of sums them all up and that is (Unique) the way that you touched EVERYONE,s heart that you came in contact with , you would do anything for anybody if god allowed, I can remember us behind Grandma and Grandpas house you know playing and hanging out on the boats in the river catching snappers and frogs for Grandmas turtle soup (YUMM) . And especially your compassionate heart and soul The thing that sticks out in my my mind the most is when you came home one time covered in nasty slimy gook, because you had just jumped into the sludge pump pool at the paper mill to Unselfishly save a poor dog from drowning that was typical LeRoy Dunklee. Well I know that you are up there riding your bike and having a nice cold one , Amen to that , and on that note I’ll see ya when I get there , Love ya — Scotty
