Leo ‘Grant’ Cole, III of Otsego, Michigan, passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2011, in Grand Rapids. Grant was born June 26, 1952, in Flint, Michigan, to Leo Grant Jr. and Betty (Louise) Johnson. His father died when he was just 13 months old and his step-father, Ron Gilbert, helped raise him from the age of 13.
In 1980 he began working for Home Insurance, which became Zurich Insurance, and he was employed with them until 1999.
He enjoyed collecting cars, including MGs, an Avanti and a DeLorian, which he showed in many car shows where he often placed 2

or 3
rd
. Grant also enjoyed reading, his cats and his dog; studying new religions and model cars. He loved philosophy, was an avid photographer, and had belonged to an astonomy club at the University of Michigan.
On March 14, 1987 he married Linda Venen, who survives. Also surviving are his son, Eric, of Grand Rapids; his in-laws, Susan (Kent) Bock of Gross Pointe Woods, Robin (Larry) Boeling of Oakland and Ralph Venen of Birmingham; nieces and nephews, Carter and Caroline Bock, Tim and Aaron Boeling and Sara Venen; an aunt, Leonore (Richard) Holsopple of Pennsylvania.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his step-father; and an aunt and uncle, Eleanor and Warren Weeks.
Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday at the
Winkel Funeral Home of Otsego
, with Funeral Celebrant Bill Rose officiating. Burial of ashes will be at Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego.

Linda, please accept my condolences for your loss. I was related to Leo through his grandmother Ruth Catherine Johnson Cole. I met him only once when he was a small boy, I think in the mid 1950s.
