Laura Agnes Holliday Pierce of Plainwell, Michigan, was born at home in Lawton, Michigan, Van Buren Co., February 5th 1923 to Nellie Gunn Holliday and Stanley Holliday and passed away peacefully at Life Care Nursing Home on August 9, 2012. Laura’s mother died when she was 5 and she was raised by her maternal aunt, Nina Gunn Simington and Elwin Simington. Her siblings were Wayne Holliday and Sylvia Holliday Walters, both deceased.
On February 7, 1942, she married Dale Kenneth Pierce, son of Willard Ogden and Daisy Cross Pierce, in the home of Nina and ‘Sie’ Simington in Otsego.
Laura and Dale both worked in the paper industry in Plainwell and Kalamazoo, respectively. After early retirement, they moved to Leesburg, Florida with their precious cockapoo, Goldie, spending summers on Crooked Lake, Delton, blue gill fishing and enjoying retirement. Laura was a wonderful cook who dearly loved her family and friends. She and Dale especially enjoyed their retirement years traveling with their “Century” trailer club friends. They returned to full-time Michigan living in 1990 and resided at Royal Estates Mobile Home Park. After Dale’s passing in 2000, Laura moved to Baraga Manor in Otsego.
Laura is survived by her 2 children, Ron (Sara) Pierce of Plainwell and Linda (Robert) Cooley of Otsego. She has 5 grandchildren, Joel (Angela) Pierce, Susana Pierce, Jenifer (Christopher) Blitz, Scott (Jerri) Cooley and Erin (Gordon Doolin) Cooley. She has 5 great grandchildren, Alexander Pierce, Jacob Pierce, Chandler Graham, Christian Cooley and Lucilia Blitz.
Cremation has taken place. A family graveside memorial service will be held with interment at Hillside Cemetery in Plainwell.
