Larry passed away Monday, January 18, 2016 at his home in Otsego.
He was born July 4, 1947 in Allegan to Clifford and Lois (Sweet) Myers. The youngest of 11 children he grew up on the family farm in Trowbridge Township. Larry was a 1965 Allegan High School graduate and joined the US Army in 1966 serving in Vietnam. After returning home in 1968 he met Jan Ellwood in Saugatuck, MI and they were married February 14, 1969 in Otsego at the United Methodist Church. Larry started working for General Motors in December of 1968 at the Comstock plant and was transferred to the Marion, IN plant in 1993 where he worked for four years before returning to the area. In 2006 after 37 ½ years he retired from the 34
th
St. plant in Grand Rapids. In 1998 he went to work part time for Winkel Funeral Home until 2015.
Larry was blessed with two beautiful daughters, Stephany in 1970 and Stacey in 1972. He loved his family and always worked hard to provide for them. Helping his girls sneak a snack after their mom said they couldn’t have one was one of his biggest jobs. He was an avid bowler having bowled a perfect game in 2011 and also enjoyed golfing. One of his greatest loves was the Detroit Tigers. He was always willing to take the girls fishing with him and they always talked baseball. Larry was a hard worker who loved big hugs and smiles. He enjoyed woodworking and made several pieces of various furnishings for his home and took pride in the wooden cradles he made for each of his grandchildren along with the memorial flag boxes he made for the funeral home, friends and family. Larry served proudly for 15 years on the Otsego Fire Department.
Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Jan; his daughters, Stephany Rose of Richland and Stacey (Gregory) Herman of San Francisco, CA; grandson, Nathan Campbell of Plainwell; granddaughter, Michela Rose of Richland; his siblings, Bertha Miller of Allegan, George Myers of FL, Irene Miller of Kalamazoo, Eugene Myers of Plainwell, Leslie Myers of FL, Marion Myers of Holland, Lucille Harrington of Comstock and Kathleen Groth of Martin; his nephew who was like his brother, Jerry Myers of Allegan and several nieces, nephews, greats and great-greats.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, Elton Myers and his oldest brother, Vernon Myers.
According to his wishes cremation has taken place.
Friends may visit with Larry’s family from 5-8 P.M on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at the Winkel Funeral Home in Otsego.

I cant say this about very many men that I have known, but Larry was truly a sweet person. I can NEVER recall a time when that huge smile wasn’t on his face. It was an honor to be a member of the Otsego Fire Dept. with him, and to call him my friend. My deepest heartfelt condolences go out to Jan, Stephany, Stacey and the rest of his friends and family. Rest in peace my friend!!!

I feel sadden for Jan and her girls for the loss of my Uncle Larry. Also, my mom Irene and his brothers and sisters, and others that were close to him. Unfortunately, Larry was take young, but I sure believe with all of my heart that God has a plan for all of us and we will see him again as well as all of those we lose in this life. There will be a great celebration. Jan, I hope the future will bring joy for you and your family. You are in my heart today.
I remember Larry as a good uncle as I was growing up. Always kind to me and others. Had a big smile when he greeted me and others. Though I have lived out west the past 40 years and have had little opportunity to see and converse with him during those years, I am teary eyed right now and missing him.
May God Bless,
Love Danny

Larry & I were both Allegan “country” kids. We each grew up on farms in Trowbridge Township but never met until we were bussed into Allegan as Freshmen on the same bus. Even as a Freshman, Larry had the gift of making every person he met feel important and special. His genuine accepting behavior towards others distinguished him as a “gentleman” in every sense of the word. R.I.P. you very, very kind man.
