. Mr. Saunders was born

December 19, 1938

in

Kalamazoo

to Leland and Bessie (Clemmens) Saunders and had been a long time resident of the area. He had served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. For about 10 years he had owned and operated Saunders Concrete Construction and Pools in Cooper. L. D. enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his motorcycle, puttering in his woodshop, landscaping, gardening and feeding the birds. On

January 10, 1957

in Cooper he married Eva Rice, who died in 1999. He was also preceded in death by his father and by an infant brother, Timothy. Surviving are one daughter and four sons, Kymberly Hampton of Alamo, Mick (Sheila) Saunders of Plainwell, Rocky (Suzanne) Saunders of Otsego, Lonnie (Mary) Saunders of Kalamazoo and Tag (Theresa) Saunders of the Philippines; 19 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; his mother, Bessie Saunders of Hobe Sound, FL; one sister and two brothers, Romalee Robinson of Florida, Larry Saunders of Kalamazoo and Doug Saunders of Florida; a brother-in-law, Jerry Rice of Shipshewana, IN; several nieces and nephews. Friends may meet the family from 2 to 4 and

Monday at the

Winkel Funeral Home in

Otsego.

Funeral services will be held at

11:00 A.M.

Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Plainwell with Pastor Thomas Pace officiating. Burial will follow at
