Kathie Lacey

Words are just not enough to sum up the life of Kathie D. Lacey of Sturgis (formerly of Otsego). Born on June 9, 1957, she was a loving mother and grandmother, a giving wife, a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Sturgis, MI, a devoted Christian and a friend of all. She loved her family more than anything else in this world. Kathie was never shy when it came to her faith and family.

Kathie graduated with the class of 1975 at Otsego High School. In 1976 she met Patrick Lacey and they married October 27, 1979. Their marriage is one of strong faith and love for over 34 years. She was employed for the last five years at Berkshire Hathaway Home Services of Sturgis, formally Prudential One Real Estate, where she supported a team of real estate agents.

Kathie had a rare talent of being able to host the best parties known to mankind; everyone had fun and remembered them forever. She was a God fearing woman and held her faith until the end. She fought hard until her last breath was taken on April 7

th

in the early afternoon. She will be forever missed and forever loved by all.

Kathie is survived by her parents Larry and Ardelle Hutchinson; her husband Patrick; her children Sean (Kileigh) Lacey and Sarah (Ryan) Moenke; the light of her life, granddaughter Grace; her siblings, sister Julie (Dave) Levett and brother Marty (Kelley) Hutchinson; many nieces and nephews; and a great niece and great nephew.

My deepest sympathy to you all. I have known Kathie since our children were young. My oldest and her youngest graduated from St Johns together. Our daughters also had our first grandchildren within a few months of each other. This and our love for animals made us have a special bond. I will miss her smile and her laugh and the way she always went out of her way helping me with photos at work. She will be greatly missed. Will keep you all in my prayers.

Shocked beyond disbelief and weighted with tremendous sadness, we mourn for your family. Kathie was such a significant part of my life for the past 4+ years, I will carry an emptiness forever. Her little notes to Dustin’s girls in exchange for his fresh eggs will forever be missed.

She always kept things rolling in the office, whether it was organizing a party or planning a meeting, she knew the files and where they were. This was all just suppose to be a short little set back and things were to go back to normal as they were. The Lord has decided to let us all know, he needed her more than we did! Rest in Piece Kathie, we will miss you!

We, the OHS Class of 75, are saddened and heartbroken by the passing of our friend and classmate, Kathie Lacey. We shall always remember her constant smile, her fiesty personality, and her warm heart. Her love of family, friends, and God is unsurpassed, as is our love for her. We extend our deepest condolences to the Hutchinson and Lacey families. We have all lost a most amazing person who touched us all in one way or another, but we can rest assured that God has gained an angel.

Kathie and her family, I and my family attended the same church for several years. Her children and my granddaughters attended St. Johns Lutheran School. She and I worked together in the same office for the past four years. So it is fair to say that we knew each other quite well. She was ill for such a short time and while all who knew her are in shock at her passing, I am glad she did not suffer any undo pain. It is such a blessing that she was a very Christian lady and that her sole is with the Lord.

I am at loss for words with the passing of a wonderful soul. We attended elementary, middle and high school together and attended many birthday parties for one another. Roller skating in Plainwell was always fun. So many other memories with such a beautiful friend. Your smile was infectious along with your bubbly personality. I will see you again my dear friend. My condolences to the Hutchinson and Lacey families. May you find comfort and peace.

I always looked forward to every Tuesday when I would stop into the office making my weekly calls to see Kathie, and every Tuesday she’d greet me with a smile on her face. She will certainly be missed and I’m extremely sorry for the loss of such a wonderful woman, and to everyone in the family.

This was so unexpected… Kathie was a neighbor just a little south from my house growing up. I moved to Bronson just down the road from Sturgis many years ago. Who else do I run into while in Sturgis, but Kathie. “Neighbors” again 🙂 We crossed paths again a few times over the years and each time it was as though there was never a moment missed. I’m so glad I had a chance to “talk” with her again through Facebook over the past couple months and catch up. What special girl she was when we were kids, and still to her last day. We will all miss you Kathie, but the loss to your family when you were still so young and full of life has to be devastating beyond comprehension. I’m so sorry they have to experience it. My heart goes out to you all.

We will all meet again… and it will be just as before; as though there was never a moment missed.

I knew of Kathie for years (through my son, David), but never really knew Kathie until I went to work at BHHS Michigan Real Estate three years ago. Once I went to work for BHHS, it didn’t take me long to become friends with Kathie because of her infectious smile and warm and caring personality. We hit it off right away, and she immediately made me feel as though I had been a part of the family at BHHS for years. Kathie and I shared hundreds of stories with one another – mostly about our familes and our pets, along with many a laugh and sometimes a tear or two. With Kathie’s passing, there is going to be huge void in my heart, but I am so happy that she is at peace and no longer suffering. I will miss her so much; however, I know God feels he needs Kathie by his side more than we do, and that he will take very good care of her. With her kindness and beautiful smile, she will be a golden star among the angels . . . and her memory will live on for years to come. Patrick, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this time of sorrow. Please take care . . .

Pat, Sean and Sarah, I miss your mom, Kathie. I knew every time I spoke to her there was a smile on the other end of the phone. She had a joyous spirit that radiated from her love of Christ and her love for you all. A light that was present is now with The Lord and for that we all rejoice.

Her legacy of love and joy now extends to Grace, Ryan and Kileigh. You all are part of her heritage of loving others selflessly. Thank you Larry and Ardelle for raising and loving a great daughter, we were all blessed to know and love Kathie.

No more car races at the Kalamazoo Speedway instead I look forward to her fellowship in heaven. Psalm 23

My thoughts and prayers go out to Kathie’s family. She was like a big sister to me as she was my sister Kelley’s best friend. She spent many times at our house as we did hers. Her younger sister Julie and I were the so called little sister tag-a-longs. Kathie always wore a smile on her face and was so kind to everyone. She will be missed by many. R.I.P. Kathie

I was very very saddened to hear of the loss of one of the most vivacious persons I have ever known. Kathie was THE personality to our bowling team for years.
