in Martin, the daughter of William Madison and Georgia (Hooper) Brown. Later, Georgia H. married Clyde Patterson. Julia had two half sisters Betty Brown and Agnes Patterson and two half brothers, Charles Brown and Thomas Patterson, who all preceded her in death. She attended

, and later obtained a Bachelors Degree through their correspondence course. Julia was a teacher in the New Hudson and later the

Public Schools

. She was a lifelong resident of Martin and a member of the

Methodist

Church

where she played piano and organ and was a member of the Ladies Social Club. She and her sister Agnes operated the Pat and Julia Dry Goods Store in Martin for a number of years. After her children were grown, Julia taught at Martin until her retirement. She loved to travel and play bridge. In

in 1926, she married Charles Allen Tandy and he preceded her in death in 1979. Surviving are 2 daughters and 2 sons, Georgia Mae (LeRoy) Young of Traverse City, Alice Ploof-Washtoak of

Kalamazoo

, Charles (Elaine) Tandy of Kalamazoo and Gail R. Tandy of Gun Lake; 13 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 16 great great grandchildren; 1 great great great grandson. Also preceding her in death were 2 grandchildren Kathryn Clark and Tommy Ploof, great grandson Anthony Ploof. Friends may meet with her family on Thursday, December 10, 2009 from 12 noon until the time of service at 1:00 P. M. at the
