Joyce A. Wood
Joyce A. Wood of Otsego, passed away Friday, August 15, 2014 in Plainwell. Joyce was born June 16, 1938 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Garrett and Norene (Wood) VanderMeer. From age 8 to 16, she lived with her family on the Hawaiian island of Oahu, then in Virginia until 1961, when they moved to the Kalamazoo area.
Joyce was a passionate reader and enjoyed drawing, writing poetry, cooking, flower gardening and was an amateur writer. Joyce served as the Librarian of the Kendall United Methodist Church, was active in the community Bible Study and Willing Workers.
On May 11, 1963, in Kalamazoo, she married Gilbert A. Wood, who survives. Also surviving are 2 sons and 2 daughters, Brian Michael Wood of Princeton, IN, Jeffrey Lee( Terri) Wood of Surprise, AZ, Nalani Zorola of Three Rivers and Leilani (Dan) Taylor of Sherwood, MI; 9 grandchildren, Melani, Heather, Justin, Meagan, Travis, Allysa, Sheridan, Matthew and Zachary; a sister, Diedre Taylor of Otsego. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, Glynn Hooker in 1961.
Cremation has taken place. Friends may meet with Joyce’s family on Sunday August 17, 2014 from 2-4pm at the Kendall United Methodist church, where a memorial service will be held Monday,
August 18, 2014, at 11am, with Pastor Nelson Hall officiating. Contributions in memory of Joyce may be made to the Church. Messages of condolence may be posted at
