Joyce M. O’Neill

Joyce passed away Sunday, January 29, 2023 in Kalamazoo.

She was born August 15, 1938 in Quincy, Massachusetts, the daughter of Vincent and Helen (Daly) O’Neill. Joyce graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Weymouth, Massachusetts and from Boston University with a bachelor’s degree in Communications.

Joyce loved her career as a flight attendant, she flew all over the world and was fascinated by the places she visited and people she met. She was devout in her faith, loved God and her family. Her hobbies included studying foreign languages, especially French and Spanish, traveling, painting, playing the piano and gardening, and her yard and gardens were testimony to that. She enjoyed golf and was always looking for a new course to play.

Joyce had a strong friendship with Sam LaFata, who preceded her in death March 2022. She will be missed by her family and all those who knew her. Joyce and her family are especially grateful for the care provided by her friend Jodi Carra.

Surviving are her daughter, Cathy McDougall; siblings, Stephen (Jackie) O’Neill, Daniel (Wendy) O’Neill and Joanne Coy; sister-in-law, Christine O’Neill; nieces and nephews, Sean (Liz) O’Neill and their children, Liam and Ella; Sarah (Jim) Wragg and their children, Leland and Nolan; Amy (Tim) O’Connor and their children, Caroline and Aibheen; Kevin (Joanne) O’Neill and their daughter, Marley and Morgan (Jay) Barr.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Lawrence O’Neill; brother-in-law, Dave Coy and companion, Sam LaFata.

According to her wishes cremation has taken place.

A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at St. Margaret Catholic Church in Otsego, with Rev. Fr. Simon Manjooran officiating.

Private family burial will follow at Hicks Cemetery.

Contributions in memory of Joyce may be made to the hospice organization of your choice, as the help they provided Joyce was greatly appreciated.

I just wanted to give my condolences to Joyce’s family. Joyce and I flew together for TWA and went through 9/11 together, along with American take over. I have good memories of playing golf on small practice greens with Joyce. She was a good friend and I will miss her! She was caring and compassionate, especially with her mom and dad. She will certainly be missed!

We enjoyed Joyce & Sam as neighbors. They loved our family. We loved them.

Until we meet again,
