John D. Horvath, Knight of Columbus 4th Degree, passed away on July 1, 2023. He has been reunited with his wife of 55 years, Maxine E. Horvath (nee Wickware).
He is survived by his four children: Donna (Eric) Mahieu, John L. (Kimberly) Horvath, Emily Horvath, and Gregory (Breanne) Horvath. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren: Leslieanne (Alexander) Seekell, Erin (Zachary) Payton, Devon (Kyle) Kessler, Kayla Horvath, John D. Horvath, II, Morgan Horvath, Keagan Horvath, and Aedan Horvath. He was also blessed with five great-grandchildren: Piper, Ryder, Briar, and Daxon Seekell, and Seth Kessler.
John built a fulfilling career as a hospital pharmacist serving as the Chief of Pharmacy at both Borgess Hospital and Allegan General Hospital. He was an avid gardener, and his orchids will continue to bring joy to his family if we can manage to keep them going. If you asked us for one piece of advice from our father it would be, “Be kind to each other.”
A funeral mass will be celebrated on August 1, 2023 at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Otsego, Michigan at 11 am.
In lieu of flowers we ask that you donate to a charity that you believe spreads kindness in our father’s honor.
Messages of condolence may be posted at www.WinkelFuneralHome.com.

I looked over where John sat last Sunday and was so sad, but so happy for him as I know he is rejoicing with our Lord. I will miss him greatly, but am so glad my children learned to be Altar servers under his guidance. I will miss sitting with him at the Fish Fry’s and hearing his stories. He was a great, Godly man and I am forever grateful I knew him.

John (JD) was the oldest child of John Louis (1907 Hungary) and Louise Virginia Horvath nee Jarred (1917 Toronto). He is preceded in death by our parents and sister, Mary Louise Horvath Jack (Daniel). My siblings and I, Geoffrey Arthur Horvath (Betty), Marcia Horvath Pogoncheff (Metodi) and Joseph Eugene Horvath with our many nieces and nephews join John’s children and their families in mourning and celebrating his life.
“Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him. May the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God, rest in peace.”
“Brief is life but love is long” Alfred, Lord Tennyson 1847

I worked with John in the Pharmacy at Allegan General. He was an amazing man.
So sad to hear this but I know he is happy being with his wife.
Prayers to the Horvath family.
