John E. Simmons Jr.

John E. Simmons Jr., of Plainwell, went home to be with the Lord Monday, November 6, 2006. John was born August 24, 1948 in Kalamazoo to John and Marilyn (Embs) Simmons, Sr. and was a lifelong resident of the area. For the past 7 years he was employed with Georgia Pacific at the Epic plant in Parchment. John enjoyed motorcycle riding, hunting and fishing. His favorite foods were ice cream, jello and peaches. He was a loving husband and father. On June 29, 2005 in Paw Paw he was married to Sharon DeGraaf, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter and a son, Kimberly (Dale) Richards and Brett (Renae) Simmons, both of Kalamazoo; four brothers, Mark (Bonnie) Simmons of Plainwell, Alan (Janet) Simmons of Portage, Stephen (Crista) Simmons of Richland and Scott Simmons of Kalamazoo; five grandchildren, Derek, Bryon, Travis, Kylie and Jason; an aunt, Dorothy Simmons of Jackson; many cousins; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kent Simmons. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday at the Kalamazoo First Assembly of God Church, 5550 Oakland Dr. (at I-94), with Pastor Phillip McElhenny officiating. A luncheon will follow the service.
