Jerome H. ‘Jerry’ Berner of Portage, Michigan, passed away

. He is now with his Lord to join his wife Dorothy and his dog Fritz. Jerry was born
July 22, 1935

Mishawaka

, the son of Hillary and Mary Catherine (Ter-Bush) Berner. He was a 1953 graduate of
Otsego
High School
. From 1954 to 1957, he served in the U. S. Marine Corps and was honor guard at the Tomb of the Unknowns at
Quantico
,
Virginia
. He was employed with KVP Sutherland and as a foreman at General Motors in
Kalamazoo
, retiring in 1999. Since his retirement, he had spent his winters in
Fort Myers
Beach
, FL. Jerry loved being with his grandchildren and families and enjoyed being on the beach and fishing in
Florida
. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy on
October 7, 2002
also 2 sisters, Rosemary Anson and Mary Catherine Folkert. Surviving are his daughter, Ann Berner of
Fort Myers
Beach
, his son, Kevin (Michelle) Berner of Battle Creek; his step-daughter, Barbara (Chris) Madura of Grand Rapids; 6 grandchildren, Jason, Scott, Tiffany, Candace, Jarrett and Brooke; 3 brothers, William (Geraldine) Berner of Otsego, Philip (Joyce) Berner of Otsego, Frederick (Brenda) Berner of Kalamazoo; many nieces and nephews.
He will be missed by his friends and neighbors in
Florida
and
Michigan
and his cat Cally ‘Alley Cat’. Friends may meet the family on Tuesday from 2-4 and
6-8 P.M.
at the
Winkel Funeral Home,
Otsego,
where a memorial service will be held Wednesday at
11:00 AM
, Pastor Philip R. Griffin officiating. Interment of cremains will be at Mount Ever-Rest Memorial Park in
Kalamazoo
. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army of Kalamazoo.
