Jeffrey D. Jackson
Jeff went to be with the Lord and reunited with his father and brother, Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at his mother’s home in Plainwell after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born February 16, 1968 in Plainwell the son of Ron and Sue (Reed) Jackson-Shumaker. He had been a truck driver and a care giver at Plainwell Pines Nursing Home. Jeff was a nature lover with a gentle soul. He loved all animals and birds. He was a big jokester, an avid photographer and gardener and loved spending time with his family and traveling with his son.
Surviving are his mother, Sue Shumaker; step-father, Dave DeKam; son, Matthew Jackson, ex-wife, Shelly and her daughter, Jayden; special grandmother, Madeline Reed; aunts and uncles, Clovis Reed, Clarence Reed, Wanda (Hutch Hutchinson) Morris, Jo Golden, Jerry (Pat) Reed, Ruth Rhoades, Donna Reed-Hall, Ken (Dort) Reed, Doug Reed, John Reed and Eric Reed. Many cousins including Kelli Morris, Shannon Golden and Tami Hickman-Wise who were like sisters to Jeff and best friends, Donny Bacon and Monica Maxson and her daughter, Hali.
He was preceded in death by his father; brother, Jason; grandparents, Adolph Reed and Bob and Betty Jackson; his uncles, Allen and Rick and aunt, Linda Jackson.
Friends may visit with Jeff’s family starting at 11:00 A.M., Friday, January 4, 2019, at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 P.M., with Pastor Mike Risner officiating.
Burial will follow at Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego.
Contributions in memory of Jeff may be made to the
American Cancer Society.

I knew Jeff when I worked at Dollar general in otsego, I always thought he was kind and he would always make us laugh, he would come in after work or right before work he used to buy his cat food, and talk alot about his cats. I’m sorry for your loss, and I’m happy to see he reunited with his father and brother and the best part the Lord, prayers are with the family at this time.

Dear Sue and Matt. We just read the obituaries in today’s paper and were so saddened to read that you lost Jeff yesterday. OMG, What a shock. We are so very sorry for your loss of Jeff. We know what a special son he was. I remember running into him many times over the years at Harding’s but had not seen him in a very long time. Please know that our thoughts and sympathy are with you and Matt and family. May you all find peace as you go through the coming days and months.

Aunt Sue, where to start. I loved Jeff with all my heart, he was not just your run of the mill cousin but your best friend and brother. He had a heart as big as the world! I have so many memories of us as kids playing at Grandmas house on holidays. Jeff and I favorite was he was Batman and Wonderwoman. We could play for hours. Nothing ever changed our feelings for each other even growing up and me moving away. We kept in touch and when I came home for a visit he always made sure to see me. I can’t express how saddened I am for you Sue, you are my Aunt and always will be my Aunt. Sending lots of love and prayers your way!

I am so, so sorry for your loss..Jeff rode the Same bus as I did and lived a few houses down. I had never witnessed him being angry or sour to anyone. Of coarse I had a crush too! I had often wondered what life brought him. True example of how short life is. I am glad to know the kindness and humor was a big part of his life. May he Rest in Peace. God Bless!

So sorry to hear of your loss, A loss to the world actually. I can’t think about my childhood without thinking about Jeff ! His wisecracking crazy antics filled a lot of my younger days. I will never think of him without smiling and I do think of him often. I was blessed to know the crazy little boy who was always up to something, the young man who was in trouble in Mr Germain’s class, and even the sensitive young man that he tried to keep hidden most of the time. So glad he is no longer in pain and so very sorry for the hole he has left in the lives of so many. Hugs to everyone..Mandi

I worked with Jeff for a long time at two different jobs. I had hired him in at the last job. I knew how great of a worker he was. He was also one of my most memorable. Jeff was a great friend and a very nice guy. We lost touch over the years but, always would remember how much he made me laugh and how much he put into his work. He will be missed. So sorry I didn’t get to see him one last time.

Jeff was the reason I quit smoking. It shook me to see someone as young and vibrant as him be taken from us so quickly. It inspired me to take better care of myself. And its ine of the best things I’ve ever done. Jeff was litterly one of the kindest, hardest working men I’ve ever met. He would never ever say no, he couldn’t do something hed find a way to do it, even if it ment going to ridiculous lengths. He was a real inspiration.

Jeff was a good guy. He worked with me at Plainwell Pines. Jeff worked nites and we became partners in crime(according to some) ! We made the best team! Good to count on him to have my back, not that I always needed it. He came to see me one day.. I told him I was leaving to another job after 17 years.. I was nervous. He had a way to look forward. It was hard to say good bye that day; knowing I’d never see my friend again. He just looked at me and smerked.
