James passed away Sunday, October 4, 2015 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.
He was born on November 30, 1949 in Los Angeles, CA to Alfred and Bertha (Leon) Martin. Jim served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. For over 18 years he had worked for Parker Hannifin HSD, most recently as a painter. In his spare time he enjoyed bowling, playing golf, reading, watching sci-fi movies, gardening, doing yard work with Vicki and most of all spending time with his family. On September 27, 2013 he married Vicki Doubblestien who survives.
Also surviving are his children, Andrea Garcia Contreras, Jamie Garcia Contreras both of FL, Jacob Martin of CA, Ammie Coburn of Schoolcraft, Rhonda (Chad) Gorton of Alto and Rob Doubblestein of Kalamazoo; 11 grandchildren, Samadi Jr., Jessiah, Yvianna, Ylena, Joshua, Jacob, Ryan, Rachael, Conner, and Kylee and his siblings, Rose of AR and Brian of WY.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, Alfred.
According to his wishes cremation has taken place.
No services are scheduled at this time.
Jim was a very loving man and will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

Although Jim and I did not see eye to eye on many issues I always believed Jim was a good man, caring father and candid person. Jim was a man of great passion and for those that he loved they knew that about him. Jim stood up for what he believed in and he never backed down from a spirited discussion, he was unique.

So sad to get this news. Always enjoyed talking with Jim. Seems like yesterday when I saw him at the Blake golf outing. Our prayers go out to the family and friends.

Sorry to hear about Jim. I worked with Jim at Parker HSD. We spent time in Saudi Arabia training the Saudi’s together.
